The New York Yankees defeated the
Kansas City Royals on Saturday night.
The game took place at Kaufmann Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri and the
final score was 8-3. Luis Severino
started for the Yankees and pitched ok.
Gary Sanchez led the offense with four hits and three RBI.
Severino won his seventh game of
the season pitching six innings and giving up eight hits and three runs with
two walks and six strikeouts. Chad Green
pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two, Dellin Betances
pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Aroldis Chapman pitched an inning
giving up a walk and he struck out one.
Danny Duffy suffered his sixth loss
of the season pitching four innings and giving up seven hits and five runs with
three walks and four strikeouts. Burch
Smith pitched three innings giving up five hits and a run with three strikeouts
and Blaine Boyer pitched two innings giving up two hits and two runs.
Aaron Hicks had two hits, an RBI
and drew a walk, Giancarlo Stanton had a hit and an RBI and Sanchez had four
hits and three RBI. Tyler Austin had two
hits, Miguel Andujar had a hit and Clint Frazier had a hit and drew two
walks. Ronald Torreyes had two hits,
Gleyber Torres had a hit and three RBI and Sanchez, Torreyes and Frazier each
hit a double. Hicks, Torres, Sanchez and
Stanton each hit a homerun. The Yankees
were 2-7 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. Stanton had an outfield assist.
John Jay had a hit, Jorge Soler had
a hit and an RBI and Mike Moustakas had two hits and an RBI. Salvador Perez had a hit and drew a walk. Whit Merrifield had a hit and Hunter Dozier
drew a walk. Alcides Escobar had a hit,
Ryan Goins had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk, Goins hit two doubles and
Perez and Merrifield each hit a double. The
Royals were 2-11 with runners in scoring position and left six men on
base. Jay had an outfield assist.
In the first Sanchez hit an RBI
double to take a 1-0 lead. Hicks hit an
inside-the-park homerun in the third to push the lead to 2-0. In the bottom of the third Goins hit an RBI
double to cut the lead to 2-1. Soler hit
an RBI single to tie the game at two. In
the fourth Torres hit a three-run homerun to give the Yankees a 5-2 lead. In the bottom of the fifth Moustakas hit an
RBI single to cut the lead to 5-3. In
the seventh Sanchez hit a solo homerun and in the ninth Stanton and Sanchez hit
back-to-back homeruns to make the lead 8-3 which was the final score.
The two teams will play the third
and final game on Sunday afternoon.
