The New York Mets were defeated by
the Colorado Rockies on Friday night.
The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final
score was 8-7. Zach Wheeler started for
the Mets and he did not pitch well.
Asdrubal Cabrera and Todd Frazier led the offense with two hits and
three RBI each.
Wheeler pitched six innings giving
up ten hits and eight runs. He walked
three and struck out three and lost his second game of the season. Seth Lugo pitched three innings giving up a
hit and a walk and he struck out three.
German Marquez pitched six innings
giving up six hits and two runs with no walks and eight strikeouts. Marquez won his second game of the
season. Bryan Shaw pitched an inning giving
up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts, Chris Rusin pitched an inning giving
up a hit and two runs with a walk and Jake McGee didn’t record an out and gave
up two hits and two runs. Wade Davis
picked up his 12th save of the season pitching an inning and giving
up two hits and a run with a walk and two strikeouts.
Brandon Nimmo had a hit and drew a
walk, Cabrera had two hits and three RBI and Yoenis Cespedes had a hit and drew
a walk. Jay Bruce had a hit and drew a
walk, Frazier had two hits and three RBI and Jose Lobaton had a hit. Wheeler had a hit, Wilmer Flores had a hit
and Amed Rosario had two hits and an RBI.
Flores hit a double and Cabrera hit a triple and a homerun. Frazier hit a homerun and the Mets were 2-7
with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. Frazier had a stolen base.
Charlie Blackmon had two hits, an
RBI and drew a walk, Gerardo Parra had two hits and drew a walk and Nolan
Arenado had two hits and an RBI. Carlos
Gonzalez had an RBI and drew a walk, Trevor Story had a hit, an RBI and drew a
walk and Ian Desmond had two hits and an RBI.
Daniel Castro had a hit and two RBI, Tony Wolters had a hit and an RBI
and Story and Desmond each hit a double.
Blackmon and Wolters each hit a homerun.
The Rockies were 5-12 with runners in scoring position and left seven
men on base. Story had a stolen base and
Desmond committed an error.
In the first Arenado hit an RBI
single, Gonzalez hit a sac fly, Story hit an RBI double and Castro hit a
two-run single to give the Rockies a 5-0 lead.
In the bottom of the first Cabrera hit a two-run homerun to cut the lead
to 5-2. In the second Blackmon hit a solo
homerun to push the lead to 6-2. In the
sixth Wolters hit a solo homerun and it was 7-2. In the seventh Desmond hit an RBI single to
make it an 8-2 game. In the eighth
Frazier hit a two-run homerun to cut the lead to 8-4. In the ninth Rosario hit an RBI single,
Cabrera hit an RBI triple and Frazier hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 8-7
but that would be as close as it got and 8-7 was the final score.
The two teams will play the second
game of three on Saturday night.
