The New York Yankees defeated the
Cleveland Indians on Saturday afternoon.
The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the
final score was 5-2. Sonny Gray started
for the Yankees and he pitched well and the bullpen was great. Brett Gardner led the offense with two
RBI.
Gray pitched six innings giving up
four hits and two runs. He walked two
and struck out seven and won his second game of the season. Chad Green pitched two perfect innings with
four strikeouts and David Robertson picked up his first save of the season
pitching an inning and giving up a hit and he struck out two.
Trevor Bauer lost his third game of
the season pitching six innings and giving up two hits and four runs with two
of them being earned. He walked three
and struck out eight. Ben Taylor pitched
two innings giving up two hits and a run with three strikeouts.
Gardner had a hit and two RBI,
Aaron Hicks had a hit and Neil Walker drew a walk. Miguel Andujar drew a walk, Gleyber Torres had
a hit and Austin Romine had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk. Ronald Torreyes had an RBI, Romine hit a
double and the Yankees were 2-6 with runners in scoring position and left three
men on base.
Francisco Lindor had a hit, an RBI
and drew a walk, Jose Ramirez had a hit and Michael Brantley drew a walk. Edwin Encarnacion had a hit and an RBI, Tyler
Naquin had a hit and Bradley Zimmer had a hit.
Zimmer, Ramirez and Encarnacion each hit a double. Lindor hit a homerun and the Indians were 0-6
with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. Lindor committed an error.
In the fifth Lindor hit a solo
homerun to give the Indians a 1-0 lead.
In the bottom of the fifth Romine drew an RBI walk to tie the game at
one. Torreyes reached on a fielder’s
choice error and two runs scored to make it 3-1. Gardner hit a sac fly to make it a 4-1
game. In the sixth Encarnacion hit an RBI ground out
to cut the lead to 4-2. In the seventh Gardner
hit an RBI single to make it a 5-2 game and that would be the final score.
The Yankees have now won five in a
row and 14 out of their last 15 games.
They will go for the sweep of the series on Sunday afternoon.
