The New York Mets defeated the
Atlanta Braves on Monday night in game two of their double header. The game took place at SunTrust Park in
Atlanta, Georgia and the final score was 8-5.
P.J. Conlon started for the Mets and he didn’t pitch well but the
bullpen did pitch well. Michael Conforto
and Kevin Plawecki each had three hits to lead the offense. Conlon pitched two innings giving up eight hits
and four runs with a strikeout. Hansel
Robles pitched three innings giving up two hits and no runs with a walk and
three strikeouts, Robert Gsellman won his fifth game of the season pitching an
inning and giving up three hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout and Jacob
Rhame pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts. Jeurys Familia saved his 14th game
of the season pitching two perfect innings with three strikeouts.
Brandon McCarthy pitched 5 1/3
innings giving up nine hits and five runs with no walks and two
strikeouts. Peter Moylan pitched 2/3 of
an inning giving up a hit, A.J. Minter pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up four
hits and three runs and he struck out one and lost his first game of the season
and Lucas Sims pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up a hit and two walks with three
strikeouts.
Brandon Nimmo had a hit and an RBI,
Conforto had three hits and Jay Bruce had a hit. Adrian Gonzalez had two hits and an RBI,
Plawecki had three hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Jose Reyes had a hit. Luis Guillorme had two hits and two RBI, Amed
Rosario had two hits and three RBI and Bruce hit a double. Nimmo hit a homerun and the Mets were 6-13
with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. Conforto had an outfield assist.
Ender Inciarte had two hits, Ozzie
Albies had two hits and Freddie Freeman had two hits, two RBI and drew a
walk. Nick Markakis had two hits and an
RBI, Kurt Suzuki had two hits and two RBI and Johan Camargo had a hit and drew
a walk. McCarthy had a hit, Ryan
Flaherty had a hit and Camargo, Markakis, Suzuki and Inciarte each hit a double
and Suzuki hit a homerun. The Braves
were 3-11 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base. McCarthy committed an error.
In the first Gonzalez hit an RBI
single, Plawecki reached on an error and a run scored and it was 2-0 Mets. In the second Suzuki hit a solo homerun to
cut the lead to 2-1. In the third Nimmo
hit a solo homerun to push the lead to 3-1.
In the bottom of the third Freeman hit a two-run single to tie the game
at three. Suzuki hit a sac fly and it
gave the Braves a 4-3 lead. In the sixth
Rosario hit a two-run single to give the Mets back the lead at 5-4. In the bottom of the sixth Markakis hit an
RBI single to tie the game at five. In
the seventh Guillorme hit a two-run single to give the Mets a 7-5 lead and
Rosario hit an RBI single to push it to 8-5 which would be the final
score.
The two teams will play game three
of four on Tuesday night.
