New York Yankees win and take series from the Anaheim Angels


The New York Yankees defeated the Anaheim Angels on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 3-1.  Masahiro Tanaka started for the Yankees and he pitched very well.  Brett Gardner led the offense with three hits. 

Tanaka pitched six innings giving up three hits and a run with three walks and eight strikeouts.  Tanaka won his sixth game of the season.  David Robertson pitched an inning giving up a hit, Dellin Betances pitched an inning with a walk and Aroldis Chapman saved his 11th game of the season pitching an inning with a walk and two strikeouts. 

Garrett Richards pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up three hits and three runs with five walks and three strikeouts and took his fourth loss of the season.  Jose Alvarez pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and he struck out three, Ian Krol pitched two innings giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts and Jim Johnson pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts.  Blake Parker pitched a perfect inning. 

Gardner had three hits, Aaron Judge had a hit and drew two walks and Gary Sanchez drew a walk.  Didi Gregorius drew a walk, Aaron Hicks had an RBI and drew a walk and Greg Bird had an RBI and drew a walk.  Miguel Andujar had an RBI and drew a walk, the Yankees were 0-8 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. 

Zack Cozart had a hit and drew two walks, Andrelton Simmons had two hits and an RBI and Shohei Ohtani drew two walks.  Martin Maldonado had a hit, Chris Young drew a walk and Simmons hit a homerun.  The Angels were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. 

In the third Hicks drew an RBI walk, Bird got hit-by-a pitch and Andujar hit an RBI ground out.  It was 3-0 Yankees and then in the sixth Simmons hit a solo homerun cutting the lead to 3-1 and that was the final score.
