New York Yankees lose a tough one in Baltimore


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland and the final score was 6-5.  Masahiro Tanaka started for the Yankees and he pitched just ok in his first start back from injury.  Didi Gregorius had three hits to lead the offense. 

Tanaka pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up six hits and three runs with two walks and five strikeouts.  Jonathan Holder pitched to two batters and retired them both, Chad Green pitched two innings giving up two hits and two runs with a strikeout and David Robertson pitched an inning with two strikeouts.  Dellin Betances pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout and he lost his third game of the season. 

Andrew Cashner pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up five hits and five runs with a walk and seven strikeouts.  Miguel Castro pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he walked one, Mychal Givens pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Zach Britton won his first game of the season pitching an inning and giving up a hit and he struck out two. 

Aaron Judge had a hit, Aaron Hicks had a hit and Gregorius had three hits.  Miguel Andujar had a hit and drew a walk, Greg Bird had a hit and four RBI and Austin Romine drew a walk.  Neil Walker had a hit and an RBI, Gregorius hit a double and Bird hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 3-4 with runners in scoring position and left two men on base.  Andujar committed an error. 

Tim Beckham had a hit and drew a walk, Adam Jones had two hits and Manny Machado had three hits, three RBI and drew a walk.  Jonathan Schoop had two hits and an RBI, Chris Davis had a hit and Trey Mancini drew a walk.  Joey Rickard had a hit and two RBI, Schoop Rickard and Jones each hit a double.  Machado hit two homeruns and the Orioles were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. 

In the fourth Rickard hit a two-run double to give the Orioles a 2-0 lead.  In the fifth Bird hit a three-run homerun to give the Yankees a 3-2 lead.  In the bottom of the fifth Machado hit a solo homerun to tie the game at three.  In the seventh Bird hit a sac fly to give the Yankees a 4-3 lead.  Walker hit an RBI single to push the lead to 5-3.  In the bottom of the seventh Machado hit a two-run homerun to tie the game at five and then in the ninth Schoop hit an RBI walk-off single to give the Orioles the 6-5 victory. 

The two teams will play the fourth and final game of the series on Wednesday night.  The Yankees will try and split the series and then head to Cleveland for four games.
