The New York Yankees were defeated by the Detroit Tigers on Thursday. The game took place at
Joker Marchant Stadium in Lakeland, Florida and the final score was 5-3 in seven innings. Clarke
Schmidt started for the Yankees and he pitched well. Miguel Andujar and Jose Peraza each had two
hits to lead the offense.
Schmidt pitched two innings giving up two hits and he struck out three. JP Sears pitched two innings
giving up three hits and he struck out four, Jonathan Loaisiga pitched a perfect inning and Joely
Rodriguez pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up five hits and five runs. He struck out one and took the loss.
Barrett Loseke pitched 1/3 of an inning and walked one and Albert Abreu pitched a perfect inning with
two strikeouts.
Marwin Gonzalez had a hit and two RBI, Oswald Peraza drew a walk and Anthony Rizzo drew a walk.
Miguel Andujar had two hits and drew a walk, Jose Peraza had two hits and an RBI and Phillip Evans
had a hit. David Freitas had a hit, J Peraza hit two doubles and Freitas and Andujar each hit a double.
Gonzalez hit a homerun and the Yankees were 3-7 with runners in scoring position and left six men on
base. Rizzo and Peraza each had a stolen base. Brantly had a passed ball.
In the fifth Gonzalez hit a two-run homer and J. Peraza hit an RBI double giving the Yankees a 3-0 lead.
In the bottom of the sixth Jeimer Candelario hit a homerun and Eric Haase hit a two-run double tying the
game at three. A passed ball made it 4-3 Tigers and Jack Lopez hit a solo homer to extend the lead to
5-3. 5-3 in seven was the final score. The Yankees will head to Clearwater to take on the Phillies on
Friday.
