New York Yankees pick up first spring win over the Philadelphia Phillies

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday afternoon.  The game took place at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Florida and the final score was 5-2.  Jameson Taillon started for the Yankees and pitched well.  No player had more then a hit. 

Taillon pitched two innings giving up a hit and he struck out one.  Nestor Cortes pitched two perfect innings with two strikeouts, Michael King pitched two innings giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout and Reggie McClain pitched an inning giving up three hits and two runs with one being earned and he walked a batter and struck out a batter.  Greg Weissert pitched two innings giving up two walks and he struck out one. 

DJ LeMahieu had a hit, Joey Gallo drew a walk and Miguel Andujar had a hit.  Giancarlo Stanton had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk, Aaron Hicks had a hit and an RBI and Max McDowell drew a walk.  Kyle Higashioka had a hit, Andres Chaparro had a hit and drew a walk and Phillip Evans had a hit and an RBI.  Tyler Hardman drew a walk, LeMahieu, Stanton, Hicks, Evans and Chaparro each hit a double.  The Yankees were 2-12 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Chaparro had a stolen base.  Torrealba committed an error. 

In the bottom of the first Stanton hit a two-run double to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  Hicks hit an RBI double and it was 3-0 Yankees.  In the bottom of the fourth Evans hit an RBI double to push the Yankees lead to 4-0.  In the bottom of the sixth Evans reached on an error and the score was 5-0.  In the top of the seventh Didi Gregorius hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 5-1.  Adam Haseley hit an RBI single making it 5-2.  5-2 would be the final score. 

The Yankees picked up their first spring victory of the season and they will play the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday afternoon.
