The New York Mets were defeated by the Arizona Diamondbacks on Saturday. The game took place
at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 3-2. Carlos Carrasco started for the Mets
and he pitched well. Jeff McNeil had two hits to lead the offense.
Carrasco pitched five innings giving up three hits and no runs with two walks and eight strikeouts. Joely
Rodriguez lost his first game of the season pitching an inning and giving up a hit and a run, Seth Lugo
pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs with a walk and two strikeouts and Trevor May pitched
an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one. Adam Ottavino pitched an inning giving up two hits and
a walk with three strikeouts.
Zac Gallen pitched four innings giving up two hits and no runs with a walk and two strikeouts. Kyle
Nelson pitched an inning with a walk and a strikeout, Sean Poppen won his first game of the season
pitching 1 1/3 innings giving up nothing and Joe Mantiply pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and
struck out one. Mark Melancon pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts and he picked up his first
save of the season.
McNeil had two hits and drew a walk, Starling Marte had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk and Francisco
Lindor drew a walk. Robinson Cano had a hit, Dom Smith had a hit and Marte hit a homerun. The Mets
left five men on base.
Daulton Varsho had a hit and drew a walk, Ketel Marte had two hits and an RBI and David Peralta had a
hit and drew a walk. Seth Beer had three hits and drew a walk, Sergio Alcantara had a hit and two RBI
and Yonny Hernandez had a hit and drew a walk. Peralta and Marte each hit a double, Alcantara hit a
homerun. The Diamondbacks were 0-7 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base.
Hernandez and Varsho had a stolen base.
In the seventh Alcantara hit a two-run homerun giving the Diamondbacks a 2-0 lead. Marte hit an RBI
double pushing the lead to 3-0. In the bottom of the eighth Marte hit a two-run homer cutting the lead
to 3-2 which would be the final score.
