New York Yankees fail to sweep the Detroit Tigers

 The New York Yankees were shutout by the Detroit Tigers on Thursday afternoon.  The game took

place at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan and the final score was 3-0.  Jordan Montgomery started 

for the Yankees and he pitched well.  The Yankees offense was anemic.  


Montgomery pitched six innings giving up a run and three hits with two walks and five strikeouts.  

Montgomery took his first loss of the season, Miguel Castro pitched an inning giving up three hits

and two runs with a walk and Lucas Luetge pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk.


Michael Pineda started for the Tigers and he pitched five innings giving up three hits and no runs.  He

struck out two and won his first game of the season.  Jacob Barnes pitched an inning giving up a hit,

Wily Peralta pitched an inning striking out one and Alex Lange pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two

hits and he walked one.  Gregory Soto saved his third game of the season pitching 1 2/3 of an inning 

giving up a hit and he struck out one.


Aaron Judge had a hit and drew a walk, Anthony Rizzo had a hit and DJ LeMahieu had a hit.  Joey 

Gallo had a hit, Isiah Kiner-Falefa had a hit and Josh Donaldson had a hit.  Gleyber Torres had a hit, 

Donaldson hit a double and the Yankees were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on

base.  


Robbie Grossman had three hits and an RBI and drew a walk, Jonathan Schoop drew a walk and 

Miguel Cabrera drew a walk.  Austin Meadows had a hit and two RBI, Eric Haase drew a walk and 

Spencer Torkelson had a hit.  Willi Castro had a hit, Victor Reyes had a hit and Grossman, Reyes and 

Meadows each hit a double.  The Tigers were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left six men on

base.  Castro was caught stealing.  


In the third Grossman hit an RBI double to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.  In the eighth Meadows hit a 

two-run double to push the lead to 3-0 and that would be the final score.  The Yankees took two of three

and will head home to begin a three-game series with the Cleveland Guardians on Friday night.
