New York Yankees outlast the Detroit Tigers

 The New York Yankees defeated the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday night.  The game took place at 

Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan and the final score was 5-3.  Luis Severino started for the Yankees 

and he pitched well.  Chad Green wasn’t great but the rest of the pen was good and Anthony Rizzo

and Isiah Kiner-Falefa each had two hits to lead the offense.  


Severino pitched five innings giving up seven hits and a run with two walks and three strikeouts.  Green

pitched an inning giving up three hits and two runs with a walk and two strikeouts.  Green won his first 

game of the season, Jonathan Loaisiga pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Clay Holmes pitched 

a perfect inning with two strikeouts.  Aroldis Chapman pitched an inning giving up a hit and he earned 

his third save of the season.  


Eduardo Rodriguez started for the Tigers and pitched six innings giving up four hits, three runs and a walk

with five strikeouts.  Drew Hutchison pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and unearned run with a 

walk, Michael Fulmer pitched 2/3 of an inning and Joe Jimenez pitched an inning giving up a hit and a 

run with two strikeouts and Jason Foley pitched a perfect inning.  


Aaron Judge had a hit and an RBI, Rizzo had two hits and two RBI and DJ LeMahieu had a hit and an

RBI.  Josh Donaldson drew a walk, Kiner-Falefa had two hits and an RBI and Kyle Higashioka drew a

walk.  Kiner-Falefa, Judge and Rizzo each hit a double, Rizzo hit a homerun and the Yankees were 2-9 

with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Rizzo had a stolen base and LeMahieu was 

caught stealing and Stanton had an outfield assist.  


Robbie Grossman had a hit, Jeimer Candelario had two hits and Miguel Cabrera had three hits.  Victor 

Reyes had two hits and an RBI, Spencer Torkelson drew two walks and Harold Castro had a hit and 

two RBI.  Willi Castro had a hit, Tucker Barnhart had a hit and drew a walk and Candelario and Castro H 

each hit a double.  The Tigers were 3-11 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.

Reyes was caught stealing and Hutchison committed an error.  


In the second Reyes hit an RBI single giving the Tigers a 1-0 lead.  In the third Judge hit an RBI double to

tie the game at one.  Rizzo hit an RBI groundout giving the Yankees a 2-1 lead.  In the sixth Rizzo hit 

a solo homerun to push the Yankees lead to 3-1.  In the bottom of the sixth H. Castro hit a two-run double 

to tie the game at three.  In the seventh Kiner-Falefa hit an RBI single giving the Yankees a 4-3 lead.  

In the eighth LeMahieu reached on a fielders choice and a run scored making it 5-3 which was the final

score.  The two teams will play the third and final game of the series on Thursday afternoon.
