The New York Yankees lose third in a row and first of Subway Series

The New York Yankees were defeated by the New York Mets on Friday night by the score of 6-4. The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing,NY. Andy Pettitte started for the Yankees and had a bad first inning, he settled down after that. Jon Niese pitched well and the bullpen was a little shaky for the Mets. The Yankees offense produced three homeruns and the Mets offense did all of it’s damage early. Ike Davis had the big hit of the game for the Mets. 
Pettitte pitched six innings giving up five runs on seven hits. He walked two and struck out six. Pettitte is now 3-3 on the season. Cory Wade pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run, Clay Rapada pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and Cody Eppley pitched 1/3 of an inning walking a batter. Niese pitched 6 1/3 innings earning his fifth win of the season. He gave up eight hits and two runs with a walk and five strikeouts. Bobby Parnell pitched to two batters and retired them both, one on a strikeout and Miguel Batista pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs with a strikeout. Frank Francisco earned his 18th save of the season pitching an inning and giving up a hit and a walk. He struck out a batter.

Derek Jeter had a hit, Curtis Granderson had a hit and Mark Teixeira had two hits. Alex Rodriguez had two hits and an RBI, Robinson Cano had a hit and two RBI and Nick Swisher had a hit. Andruw Jones had a hit, RBI and drew a walk, Pettitte had a hit and Jayson Nix had a hit. Raul Ibanez drew a walk. Rodriguez, Jones and Cano each hit a homerun. The Yankees were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and they left eight men on base. Jones had an outfield assist.

Andres Torres drew a walk, Ronny Cedeno had a hit and Omar Quintanilla had a hit. David Wright had two hits and an RBI, Scott Hairston drew a walk and Lucas Duda had a hit. Justin Turner had two hits and two RBI, Davis had a hit and three RBI. Mike Nickeas had a hit, Daniel Murphy drew a walk and Niese had a hit. Wright and Turner each had a double. Davis hit a homerun and the Mets were 2-8 with runners in scoring position. They left six men on base.

In the first inning the Mets took a 5-0 lead. Turner hit a two run single and Davis hit a three run homerun. In the sixth Rodriguez hit a homerun to make it a 5-1 game. In the seventh inning Jones hit a solo homerun making it a 5-2 game. The Mets got a run back in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI double by Wright. Cano hit a two run homerun in the eighth making it 6-4 and those would be the final runs of the game.

The Yankees lost their third straight game and the Mets won their fourth straight game. The Yankees record fell to 41-28 and the Mets record improved to 39-32. The Yankees won the first three games of this years Subway Series at Yankee Stadium and this was game one of three at Citi Field. The two teams will play game two of the series on Saturday night.
