The Mets get another brilliant start from R.A. Dickey as they defeat the Baltimore Orioles

The New York Mets defeated the Baltimore Orioles by the score of 5-0 on Monday night. The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York. R.A. Dickey started for the Mets and was simply brilliant once again. Ike Davis led the Mets offense as they didn’t need to do much. Jake Arrietta started for the Orioles and didn’t pitch bad but on this night he wasn’t going to match Dickey. 
Dickey pitched nine innings giving up no runs on one hit. He walked two and struck out a career high 13 batters. Dickey is now 11-1 on the season. Arrietta lost his ninth game of the season pitching seven innings and giving up six hits and four runs with a walk and four strikeouts. Kevin Gregg pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk and three strikeouts.

Kirk Nieuwenhuis had a hit, Jordany Valdespin had two hits and Wright had a hit and an RBI. Lucas Duda had a hit and drew a walk, Davis had a hit, four RBI and drew a walk and Scott Hairston had a hit. Dickey had a hit. Valdespin had a double and a triple and Davis hit a homerun. The Mets were 2-5 with runners in scoring position and they left four men on base.

Wilson Betemit had a hit and drew a walk for the Orioles. Arrietta drew a walk. The Orioles left three men on base.

In the sixth inning Davis hit a grand slam to give the Mets a 4-0 lead. In the eighth Wright hit an RBI single to make it 5-0 and that would be the final score. The Mets record improved to 36-32 and they ended their three game losing streak. The Orioles record dropped to 39-28. The two teams will play game two of their three game series on Tuesday night.
