The New York Mets defeat the Houston Astros 7-5

The New York Mets defeated the Houston Astros by the score of 7-5 on Wednesday night. The game took place at Osceola County Stadium in Kissimmee, Florida. Dillon Gee started and did not have a very good game, the bullpen pitched well for the Mets. Colin Cowgill and Jordany Valdespin had good games for the Mets. 
Gee pitched four innings giving up seven hits and five runs with a walk and five strikeouts. Aaron Laffey pitched an inning giving up a walk and striking out one, Pedro Feliciano pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and Greg Burke picked up the win pitching 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and striking out three. Josh Edgin pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one and Jeurys Familia pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one.

Valdespin had two hits and an RBI, Cowgill had two hits and two RBI and Zach Lutz had a hit and an RBI. Marlon Byrd drew two walks, Matthew den Dekker had a hit and two RBI and John Buck had a hit. Mike Baxter had a hit, Andrew Brown had a hit and Ruben Tejada had a hit. Brian Bixler had a hit and an RBI, Brandon Hicks had a hit and Tejada hit a double. Bixler and den Dekker hit a triple and Cowgill hit a homerun. The Mets were 5-14 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base. Valdespin was caught stealing and Hicks committed an error.

Alex White started for Houston and pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up seven hits and three runs with a walk and three strikeouts. Wesley Wright pitched to two batters and retired them both, Josh Fields pitched an inning giving up a walk and Kevin Chapman pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up five hits and four runs with a strikeout. Wes Musick pitched to one batter and retired him and David Martinez pitched two perfect innings with two strikeouts.

Jose Altuve had a hit and an RBI, Brett Wallace had a hit and an RBI and Brandon Laird had a hit. Chris Carter drew two walks, Carlos Pena had two hits and three RBI and Jason Castro had a hit. Brandon Barnes had a hit, J.D. Martinez had two hits, Trevor Crowe had a hit and Tyler Greene had a hit. Barnes hit a double and Pena hit a homerun. The Astros were 3-8 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. Altuve and Greene each had a stolen base and Martinez was caught stealing. Martinez committed an error and had an outfield assist.

The Astros jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Pena hit a two run homerun and in the second they scored three runs to take a 5-0 lead. Altuve hit a sacrifice fly, Wallace hit an RBI single and Pena hit an RBI single. Cowgill hit a two run homerun in the third to make it a 5-2 game. The Mets cut the lead to 5-3 in the fifth on a Bixler RBI triple. The Mets scored four runs in the seventh to take the 7-5 lead and that would be the final score. Valdespin hit an RBI single, Lutz hit an RBI single and Dekker hit a two run triple.

The Mets record improved to 9-10 on the spring and the Astros are now 9-13 on the spring. The Mets will host the St. Louis Cardinals on Thursday afternoon and Houston will play at Detroit on Thursday evening.
