The New York Yankees drop one to the Philadelphia Phillies 4-1

The New York Yankees were defeated by the Philadelphia Phillies by the score of 4-1 on Tuesday afternoon. The game took place at Bright House Field in Clearwater, Florida. Adam Warren started for the Yankees and was ok, Joba Chamberlain and Boone Logan pitched well for them. Ichiro Suzuki had a hit and an RBI and Brett Gardner had a hit. 
Warren pitched 3 2/3 innings giving up seven hits and two runs with a walk and a strikeout and he lost his second game of the spring. Chamberlain faced one batter and struck him out, Logan pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out two and Shawn Kelley pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with two walks and a strikeout. Josh Spence pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout and David Aardsma pitched a perfect inning striking out two.

Gardner had a hit, Melky Mesa drew a walk and Suzuki had a hit and an RBI. Suzuki hit a double and the Yankees were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left two men on base. Maruszak committed an error.

Kyle Kendrick started for the Phillies and picked up his first win of the spring. He pitched six innings giving up two hits and an unearned run. Kendrick struck out three, Mike Adams pitched an inning striking out one, Jonathan Papelbon pitched a perfect inning and Chad Durbin pitched an inning walking one and striking out one.

Jimmy Rollins had a hit and drew two walks, Michael Young had a hit and an RBI and Chase Utley had two hits. Ryan Howard had a hit and an RBI, Domonic Brown had a hit and an RBI and Laynce Nix had two hits. Steven Lerud had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Kendrick had a hit and Nix and Lerud each hit a double. Brown and Howard each hit a homerun. The Phillies were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base. Young and Kendrick each committed an error.

Suzuki hit an RBI double in the fourth to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead. The Phillies scored two in the bottom of the fourth to take a 2-1 lead. Brown hit a solo homerun and Lerud hit an RBI double. Young hit an RBI single in the sixth and Howard hit a solo homerun in the seventh to give the Phillies a 4-1 lead and that would stand up.

The Yankees record fell to 9-15 in the spring and the Phillies improved to 11-12. The Yankees will host the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday afternoon. The Phillies will have the day off.
