Alfonso Soriano slugs the New York Yankees to another victory over the Angels
The New York Yankees defeated the Anaheim Angels on Wednesday night. The final score was 11-3 and the game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York. Ivan Nova started and was pretty good for the Yankees and Alfonso Soriano led the offense with three hits and seven RBI.
Nova pitched 7 1/3 innings giving up three runs on ten hits. He walked none and struck out six and Preston Claiborne pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up two hits with a strikeout. Nova earned his sixth victory of the season.
Ichiro Suzuki drew a walk, Robinson Cano had four hits and an RBI and Alex Rodriguez had a hit and drew a walk. Curtis Granderson had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk, Soriano had three hits, seven RBI and drew a walk and Chris Stewart had two hits and two RBI. Rodriguez, Soriano and Granderson each hit a double and Soriano hit two homeruns. The Yankees were 5-8 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.
Jered Weaver lost his sixth game of the season pitching five innings and giving up nine hits and nine runs. He walked three and struck out four. Buddy Boshers pitched an inning giving up a hit, Kevin Jepsen pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs with a walk and a strikeout and Dane De La Rosa pitched an inning and struck out one.
J.B. Shuck had two hits, Mike Trout had two hits and two RBI and Josh Hamilton had two hits and an RBI. Mark Trumbo had a hit, Chris Nelson had a hit and Romine had a hit. Grant Green had three hits including a double. The Angels were 3-10 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.
Soriano hit a grand slam in the first inning to give the Yankees a 4-0 lead. In the second the Yankees scored four more to make it an 8-0 game. Cano hit an RBI single, Granderson hit an RBI single and Soriano hit a two run double. In the third Trout hit an RBI single and Hamilton hit an RBI single to make it 8-2 Yankees. Trout hit an RBI single in the fifth to make it 8-3 Yankees. Soriano hit a solo homerun in the fifth to push the lead to 9-3. Stewart hit a two run single in the seventh to make it 11-3 and that would complete the scoring.
The Yankees have now won four games in a row and improved their record to 62-57 and the Angels record fell to 53-66. The two teams will play the fourth and final game of the series on Thursday afternoon.
