The New York Yankees hang on to beat the Anaheim Angels


The New York Yankees defeated the Anaheim Angels on Monday night. The final score was 2-1 and the game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York. Hiroki Kuroda started and he pitched great. Robertson got into some trouble but was able to secure the save. Curtis Granderson hit a homerun, Brett Gardner had an RBI hit and Alex Rodriguez had a hit and grounded into two double plays.

Kuroda pitched eight shutout innings. He gave up three hits and one walk with seven strikeouts. Boone Logan pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and one run, striking out one and Robertson pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a walk, an intentional walk, and a hit and striking out two. Robertson picked up his first save of the season.

Gardner had a hit and an RBI, Ichiro Suzuki had a hit to move to six away from 4,000 combined hits between Japan and the states and Robinson Cano had a hit and drew a walk. Rodriguez had a hit, Granderson had two hits and an RBI and Eduardo Nunez had a hit. Granderson hit a homerun and the Yankees were 1-3 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base. Rodriguez was caught stealing.

Garrett Richards lost his fifth game of the season pitching eight innings and giving up seven hits and two runs with a walk and three strikeouts.

J.B. Shuck had a hit, Mike Trout had a hit and drew a walk and Josh Hamilton had two hits and an RBI. Erick Aybar drew two walks, Chris Iannetta had a hit. Hamilton hit two doubles and Iannetta hit one. The Angels were 1-9 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.

The Yankees scored a run in the third on a Gardner RBI single. The Yankees took a 2-0 lead in the seventh on a Granderson solo homerun. The Angels made it interesting in the ninth. Hamilton hit an RBI double and then Robertson struck out the last two guys with an intentional walk mixed in. The bases were left loaded to end the game and preserve the Yankees 2-1 victory.

The Yankees won their second in a row for the first time in a month. The Yankees record improved to 60-57 and the Angels record fell to 53-64. The two teams will play the second game of a four game series on Tuesday night.
