The New York Yankees offense erupts in rout of the Anaheim Angels


The New York Yankees defeated the Anaheim Angels on Tuesday night. The final score was 14-7 and the game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York. CC Sabathia started for the Yankees and was wild but effective. Alfonso Soriano had a big night with six RBI to lead the offense.

Sabathia pitched six innings giving up three hits and three runs with two of them being earned. He walked six and struck out seven and earned his 10th win of the season. Shawn Kelley pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and striking out one, Dellin Betances pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up five hits and four runs with a walk and two strikeouts and Joba Chamberlain faced two batters and retired them both with a strikeout.

Eduardo Nunez had two hits and four RBI, Soriano had three hits and six RBI and Robinson Cano had two hits and drew two walks. Alex Rodriguez had a hit and two RBI, Vernon Wells had two hits and an RBI and Brett Gardner had a hit and drew a walk. Curtis Granderson had three hits, Jayson Nix had a hit and an RBI and Lyle Overbay had three hits and drew a walk. Austin Romine had a hit and drew a walk, Overbay, Granderson and Rodriguez each hit a double and Wells hit a homerun. Soriano hit two homeruns. The Yankees were 5-13 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. Nix was picked off and committed an error and Nunez committed two errors. Romine had a passed ball and Soriano had an outfield assist.

Jason Vargas lost his fifth game of the season. He pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up eight hits and four runs with a walk and three strikeouts. J.C. Gutierrez pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk and two strikeouts, Nick Maronde gave up a run and a walk without recording an out and Michael Kohn pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs with a walk. Joe Blanton pitched two innings giving up eight hits and six runs with a walk and a strikeout.

J.B. Shuck had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk, Calhoun had a hit and Mike Trout had a hit, three RBI and drew a walk. Mark Trumbo had two hits and two RBI, Chris Nelson had a hit, an RBI and drew three walks and Josh Hamilton had a hit. Grant Green drew a walk, Chris Iannetta drew a walk and Field had a hit. Trumbo and Trout each hit a homerun and the Angels were 2-9 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. Vargas had a pickoff.

In the first Trumbo hit a two run homerun to give the Angels a 2-0 lead. Wells hit a solo homerun in the second to cut the lead to 2-1. Nelson had an RBI walk in the third to push the lead to 3-1 Angels. In the fourth Nix hit an RBI groundout to cut the lead to 3-2. Soriano hit a two run homerun in the fifth to give the Yankees a 4-3 lead. In the sixth Nunez hit an RBI groundout, Soriano hit an RBI single and Rodriguez hit a two run double to make it a 8-3 Yankees lead. Nunez hit into a forceout scoring a run in the seventh and Soriano hit a three run homerun to make it a 12-3 Yankees lead. Nunez hit a two run single in the eighth to push the lead to 14-3. The Angels scored the final four runs of the game in the ninth to make it 14-7 which was the final score. Shuck hit an RBI single and Trout hit a three run homerun.

The Yankees have now won three in a row and improved their record to 61-57. The Angels record fell to 53-65. The two teams will play game three of their four game series on Wednesday night.
