The New York Mets defeat the Atlanta Braves in matinee


The New York Mets defeated the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday afternoon. The final score was 5-2 and the game took place at Turner Field in Atlanta, Georgia. Dillon Gee started for the Mets and pitched well. Lucas Duda led the offense with three hits.

Gee pitched seven innings giving up four hits and a run with a walk and five strikeouts. Gee won his 11th game of the season. Vic Black pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run and LaTroy Hawkins pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one. Hawkins saved his seventh game of the season.

Daniel Murphy had two hits and drew a walk, Andrew Brown had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk and Duda had three hits and an RBI. Justin Turner had two hits, Travis d’Arnaud had a hit and Juan Lagares had a hit and an RBI. Omar Quintanilla had a hit and drew a walk and Gee had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk. Duda hit a double, Murphy hit a triple and Brown and Duda each hit a homerun. The Mets were 3-11 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base. Young committed an error.

Kameron Loe lost his third game of the season pitching 4 1/3 innings giving up 11 hits and five runs with three walks. Freddy Garcia pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up a hit and striking out two and Varvaro pitched two innings walking one and striking out one.

B.J. Upton had an RBI and drew a walk, Freddie Freeman had a hit and an

RBI and Evan Gattis had a hit. Johnson had two hits, Dan Uggla had a hit and Janish had two hits. Gattis and Johnson each hit a double and Freeman hit a homerun. The Braves were 0-9 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. B.J. Upton had a stolen base.

Brown hit a two run homerun in the first inning to give the Mets a 2-0 lead. In the third Duda hit a solo homerun, Lagares hit into a force out scoring a run and Gee hit an RBI single to make it a 5-0 game. B.J. Upton hit a sacrifice fly in the fifth to cut the lead to 5-1 Mets. Freeman hit a solo homerun in the eighth to make it 5-2 and that would be the final score.

The Mets record improved to 63-75 and the Braves record fell to 85-54. The Mets have an off day on Thursday.
