The New York Mets win second straight over Washington Nationals
The New York Mets defeated the Washington Nationals on Saturday night. The final score was 11-3 and the game took place at Nationals Park in Washington D.C. Zach Wheeler started for the Mets and pitched well. The Mets bullpen was pretty good and the offense was really good.
Wheeler pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up five hits and two runs. He walked one and struck out three and won his seventh game of the season. Pedro Feliciano pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and striking out one, David Aardsma pitched an inning giving up two hits and Scott Atchison pitched an inning giving up three hits and a run.
Eric Young Jr. had three hits and two RBI, Daniel Murphy had three hits and two RBI and Josh Satin had three hits and drew a walk. Ike Davis had an RBI, Travis d’Arnaud had two hits and drew a walk and Juan Lagares had three hits and two RBI. Matthew Den Dekker had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Omar Quintanilla had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk and Wheeler had an RBI and drew a walk. Quintanilla, Satin and Murphy each hit a double. The Mets were 7-15 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. Young and den Dekker each had a stolen base and Lagares had an outfield assist.
Dan Haren lost his 12th game of the season pitching 2 2/3 innings and giving up nine hits and seven runs. He walked none and struck out three. Tanner Roark pitched 3 1/3 innings giving up three hits and a run with three walks and five strikeouts, Fernando Abad pitched an inning giving up a walk and striking out one and Ryan Mattheus pitched an inning giving up four hits and three runs with a walk. Drew Storen pitched an inning giving up a hit.
Denard Span had three hits and an RBI, Chad Tracy had a hit and Bryce Harper had a hit and drew a walk. Jayson Werth had an RBI, Ian Desmond had two hits and an RBI and Solano had a hit. Steve Lombardozzi had a hit, Roark had a hit and Anthony Rendon had a hit. Harper and Desmond each hit a double and the Nationals were 1-9 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. Werth and Harper each had an outfield assist.
In the second Quintanilla hit a two run double to give the Mets a 2-0 lead. In the third Murphy hit an RBI single, Davis hit a sacrifice fly, den Dekker hit an RBI single, Wheeler had an RBI walk and Young hit a two run single to give the Mets a 8-0 lead. In the sixth Werth hit a sacrifice fly and Desmond hit an RBI single to make it an 8-2 game. In the eighth Murphy hit an RBI double to make it 9-2 Mets and Lagares hit a two run single making it 11-2. The Nationals would score the final run of the game in the ninth on a Span ground out. The final score was 11-3 and the Mets will look for the three game sweep on Sunday night. The Mets record improved to 62-72 and the Nationals record fell to 68-67.
