The New York Yankees move ahead of the Baltimore Orioles with victory


The New York Yankees defeated the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday afternoon. The final score was 2-0 and the game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York. Ivan Nova started and pitched great. Robinson Cano supplied the offense for the Yankees.

Nova pitched a complete game shutout. He gave up three hits, one walk and struck out five. Nova won his eighth game of the season.

Brett Gardner had two hits, Cano had two hits and two RBI and Curtis Granderson had a hit. Mark Reynolds drew a walk, Lyle Overbay had two hits and Gardner, Cano and Granderson each hit a double. Cano hit a homerun and the Yankees were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.

Scott Feldman lost his 10th game of the season pitching seven innings and giving up six hits. He gave up a run and a walk with five strikeouts. Troy Patton gave up a hit and a run without recording an out and Kevin Gausman pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts.

Nate McClouth had a hit, Manny Machado had a hit and Matt Wieters had a hit. J.J. Hardy drew a walk and the Orioles were 0-2 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base. Machado committed an error.

Cano hit an RBI double in the first giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead. In the eighth Cano hit a solo homerun to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead and that would be the final score.

The Yankees record improved to 72-63 and the Orioles record dropped to 71-63. The two teams will play the third and final game of the series on Sunday afternoon.
