The New York Mets were defeated by
the Washington Nationals on Sunday afternoon.
The game took place at Nationals
Park in Washington D.C. and the final score was 6-3. Zach Wheeler started and pitched ok, the
bullpen was pretty good. David Wright
and Juan Centeno each had two hits to lead the offense.
Wheeler pitched six innings giving
up six hits and five runs with three of them being earned. He walked two and struck out five and lost
his fourth game of the season. Jeurys
Familia pitched an inning walking one and Daisuke Matsuzaka pitched an inning
giving up a hit and an unearned run with a walk and a strikeout.
Jordan Zimmerman won his third game
of the season pitching six innings and giving up eight hits and three
runs. He walked two and struck out
one. Drew Storen pitched a perfect
inning, Tyler Clippard pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Rafael
Soriano saved his 10th game of the season pitching a perfect inning with a
strikeout.
Daniel Murphy had a hit, Wright had
two hits and drew a walk and Curtis Granderson had a hit and drew a walk. Lucas Duda had a hit, Juan Lagares had a hit
and an RBI and Centeno had two hits and two RBI. Duda hit a double and the Mets were 3-9 with
runners in scoring position and left five men on base. Tejada and Centeno each committed an error
and Centeno had a passed ball.
Denard Span had a hit, Anthony
Rendon had a hit and drew three walks and Wilson Ramos had two hits, four RBI
and drew a walk. Ian Desmond had two
hits and an RBI, Kevin Frandsen had an RBI and Zimmerman had a hit. Ramos and Span each hit a double and Desmond
hit a homerun. The Nationals were 3-9
with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. Rendon had a stolen base and Span had an
outfield assist.
Centeno hit an RBI single in the
second to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.
Desmond hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the second to tie the game
at one. Ramos hit a two run double in
the third to give the Nationals a 3-1 lead.
In the fifth Ramos hit a two run single to increase the Nationals lead
to 5-1. Lagares hit an RBI single and
Centeno hit an RBI single in the sixth to cut the lead to 5-3. In the eighth Frandsen hit an RBI groundout
to make it a 6-3 game and that was the final score. The Mets will be off on Monday and then
return home to face the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday night.
