The New York Mets defeat the Washington Nationals 5-2



The New York Mets defeated the Washington Nationals on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at Nationals park in Washington D.C. and the final score was 5-2.  Bartolo Colon started for the Mets and pitched well, Jennry Mejia closed it out.  Daniel Murphy, Eric Campbell and Juan Lagares each had two hits. 

Colon pitched eight innings giving up five hits and two runs.  He walked one and struck out five and won his third game of the season.  Mejia pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out two. 

Gio Gonzalez started for the Nationals and pitched three innings giving up seven hits and five runs.  He walked two and struck out four and lost his fourth game of the season.  Stammen pitched four innings and gave up a hit with a walk and struck out two.  Barrett pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Blevins pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Murphy had two hits and drew a walk, David Wright had a hit and Chris Young drew a walk.  Campbell had two hits and two RBI, Lagares had two hits and three RBI and Wilmer Flores had a hit and drew a walk.  Lagares hit a homerun and the Mets were 2-6 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. 

Jayson Werth had a hit and drew a walk, Ian Desmond had two hits and two RBI and Danny Espinosa had a hit.  Nate McClouth had a hit, Stammen had a hit and McClouth hit a double.  Stammen hit a double and Desmond hit a homerun.  The Nationals were 0-6 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Moore committed an error. 

Campbell hit a two run single in the first and Lagares had an RBI single to give the Mets a 3-0 lead.  Lagares hit a two run homerun in the third to give the Mets a 5-0 lead.  Desmond hit a two run homerun in the fourth to cut the lead to 5-2 but that would be all the scoring in the game.  The two teams will play the final game of the series on Sunday afternoon.
