The New York Yankees defeated the
Tampa Bay Rays on Monday night. The game
took place at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida and the final score
was 4-1 Yankees. CC Sabathia started for
the Yankees and pitched great and the bullpen did their job. The Yankees offense didn't do much but Alex
Rodriguez had an RBI double in the ninth and Slade Heathcott had a three run
homerun in the ninth.
Sabathia pitched 6 2/3 innings
giving up three hits and no runs with two walks and six strikeouts. Justin Wilson pitched an inning giving up
three hits and a run with two strikeouts, Caleb Cotham won his first game of
the season pitching 1/3 of an inning striking out a batter and Andrew Miller
saved his 33rd game of the season pitching a perfect inning and striking out
the side.
Erasmo Ramirez pitched 7 2/3
innings giving up one hits and no runs.
He walked two and struck out six.
Alex Colome struck out the only batter that he faced, Brad Boxberger
blew his sixth save of the season and pitched 2/3 of an inning gave up three
hits and four runs with two walks. C.J.
Riefenhauser pitched 1/3 of an inning walking one.
Brett Gardner drew two walks, Alex
Rodriguez had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Brian McCann drew a walk. Carlos Beltran had a hit, Heathcott had a hit
and three RBI and Greg Bird drew a walk.
Dustin Ackley had a hit, Rodriguez hit a double and Heathcott hit a
homerun. The Yankees were 2-6 with
runners in scoring position and left three men on base. Noel and Gardner each had a stolen base. Ryan committed two errors and Headley committed
an error.
Mikie Mahtook had a hit, Logan
Forsythe had a hit and an RBI and Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit. Steven Souza Jr. had a hit, Richie Shaffer
drew two walks and Kevin Kiermaier had two hits. Forsythe hit a double and the Rays were 0-5
with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. Mahtook had a stolen base and an outfield
assist.
In the eighth Forsythe hit an RBI
double to give the Rays a 1-0 lead. In
the ninth Rodriguez hit an RBI double to tie the game at one. Heathcott hit a three run homerun to give the
Yankees a 4-1 lead and that was the final score. The two teams will play game two of three on
Tuesday night.
