The New York Yankees were defeated
by the New York Mets on Friday night.
The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final
score was 5-1 Mets. Masahiro Tanaka
started for the Yankees and pitched well and Steven Matz for the Mets and he
started off struggling but finished well.
The Yankees had nine hits but no batter had more than a hit and Daniel
Murphy, David Wright and Lucas Duda each had two hits for the Mets.
Tanaka pitched six innings giving
up five hits and two runs with no walks and four strikeouts and he lost his
seventh game of the season. Chasen
Shreve pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs with a strikeout,
Branden Pinder pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk
and James Pazos pitched to one batter and retired him. Andrew Bailey pitched to one batter and struck
him out.
Matz won his fourth game of the
season pitching six innings and giving up seven hits and a run with a walk and
four strikeouts. Hansel Robles pitched a
perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts, Addison Reed pitched a perfect
inning with two strikeouts and Jeurys Familia pitched an inning giving up two
hits and a walk with a strikeout.
Brett Gardner had a hit and a walk,
Chase Headley had a hit and Carlos Beltran had a hit. Chris Young had a hit and an RBI, Greg Bird
had a hit and Dustin Ackley had a hit.
Didi Gregorius had a hit, Brendan Ryan had a hit and Alex Rodriguez drew
a walk. Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit,
Ackley hit a double and the Yankees were 2-8 with runners in scoring position
and left ten men on base.
Murphy had two hits and an RBI,
Wright had two hits and drew a walk and Duda had two hits and an RBI. Wilmer Flores had a hit, Juan Uribe had a hit
and two RBI. Duda hit a double, Murphy
hit a triple and Duda, Murphy and Uribe hit a homerun. The Mets were 0-3 with runners in scoring
position and left four men on base.
In the first Young hit a sac fly to
make it 1-0 Yankees. Duda hit a solo
homerun in the second to tie the game at one.
In the sixth Murphy hit a solo homerun and in the seventh Uribe hit a
two run homerun to make it 4-1 Mets. In
the eighth a wild pitch made it 5-1 Mets.
The Mets won game one of three and they will play game two of three on
Saturday afternoon.
