The New York Yankees rally but fall short in game two loss to the Toronto Blue Jays



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 10-7.  It was the second game of a doubleheader and the Yankees lost both games.  Ivan Nova started this game and wasn't very good, the bullpen was ok.  Brett Gardner led the offense with two homeruns and six RBI. 

Nova pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up seven hits and six runs with a walk and a strikeout.  He lost his eighth game of the season.  Nick Rumbelow pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a walk, Chris Capuano pitched 3 2/3 innings giving up four hits and four runs with a walk and three strikeouts and Branden Pinder pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and no runs with three strikeouts.  James Pazos pitched a perfect inning. 

Marcus Stroman won his first game of the season in his first start of the season.  He pitched five innings giving up four hits and three runs with two walks and two strikeouts.  Bo Schultz pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout, Aaron Loup pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and Jeff Francis pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up five hits and three runs with a strikeout.  Steve Delabar pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Mark Lowe pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and he picked up his first save of the season. 

Gardner had two hits and six RBI, Carlos Beltran had two hits and Brian McCann had a hit.  Chase Headley had a hit, Dustin Ackley had a hit and drew a walk, John Ryan Murphy had two hits and Didi Gregorius had two hits and an RBI.  Brendan Ryan had a hit and drew a walk, Stephen Drew had a hit and Gregorius had a double.  Gardner hit two homeruns and the Yankees were 3-12 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Murphy had a passed ball. 

Ben Revere had four hits and two RBI, Josh Donaldson had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Jose Bautista had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk.  Justin Smoak had a hit, Russell Martin had a hit and two RBI and Ezequiel Carrera had two hits.  Ryan Goins had a hit and an RBI, Cliff Pennington had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk.  Carrera, Bautista and Martin hit a double.  Pennington hit a homerun and the Blue Jays were 7-13 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Donaldson and Revere each had a stolen base and Martin had a passed ball. 

In the second Goins hit an RBI single, Pennington hit a two run homerun and Bautista hit an RBI double.  It was 4-0 Jays and Martin hit a two run double to make it 6-0 all in the second inning.  In the fifth Gardner hit a three run homerun to cut the lead to 6-3.  In the sixth Gregorius hit an RBI double to make it a 6-4 game.  The Yankees did leave runners at second and third though with one out.  In the seventh Revere hit a two run single to make it 8-4.  Donaldson hit an RBI single to make it 9-4 and Bautista hit an RBI single to make it 10-4 all in the seventh inning.  In the eighth Gardner hit a three run homerun to cut the lead to 10-7 but that would be the final score.  The teams will play the fourth and final game of the series on Sunday afternoon.
