The New York Yankees defeated the
Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday afternoon.
The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the
final score was 3-2. Masahiro Tanaka
started for the Yankees and pitched well, the bullpen was good and Brett
Gardner led the offense with three hits and two RBI including the game winning
homerun.
Tanaka pitched seven innings giving
up five hits and two runs. He walked one
and struck out seven. Dellin Betances
pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts and Andrew Miller earned his first
win of the season pitching an inning giving up a hit.
Blake Snell started for the Rays
and made his major league debut. He
pitched five innings giving up two hits and a run with a walk and six
strikeouts. Enny Romero pitched 1 1/3
innings giving up a hit and an unearned run with a walk and a strikeout, Xavier
Cedeno pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout and
Erasmo Ramirez took his first loss of the season pitching two innings and
giving up three hits and a run with a strikeout.
Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit, Gardner
had three hits and two RBI and Carlos Beltran drew a walk. Mark Teixeira had a hit, Brian McCann had a
hit and drew a walk and Starlin Castro had a hit. Chase Headley drew a walk and Gardner hit a
homerun. The Yankees were 1-8 with
runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. Gardner had a stolen base.
Logan Morrison had a hit, Corey
Dickerson had three hits and an RBI and Desmond Jennings drew a walk. Kevin Kiermaier had two hits and an RBI,
Morrison and Dickerson each hit a double.
Kiermaier hit a homerun and the Rays were 1-3 with runners in scoring
position and left three men on base.
Kiermaier was caught stealing, Miller and Casali each committed an
error.
In the first a wild pitch gave the
Yankees a 1-0 lead. In the fourth
Dickerson hit an RBI double to tie the game at one. Kiermaier hit a solo homerun in the fifth to
give the Rays a 2-1 lead. Gardner hit an
RBI single in the seventh to tie the game at two. In the ninth Gardner hit a walk-off solo homerun to give the
Yankees a 3-2 win.
The Yankees have won two in a row
and will go for the three game sweep on Sunday afternoon. Michael Pineda will start for the Yankees
against Drew Smyly.
