The New York Yankees were defeated
by the Oakland Athletics on Tuesday night.
The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the
final score was 3-2. Michael Pineda
started for the Yankees and pitched well and the bullpen was good. The Yankees offense continued to struggle
with runners in scoring position and Alex Rodriguez and Chase Headley each had
two hits.
Pineda pitched six innings giving
up two runs on seven hits. He walked one
and struck out seven. Chasen Shreve
pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout, Dellin Betances pitched an inning
giving up two hits and he struck out two and Andrew Miller pitched an inning
striking out one. Johnny Barbato took
his first loss of the season pitching two innings and giving up two hits and a
run with a strikeout.
Eric Surkamp pitched 5 2/3 innings
giving up seven hits and two runs with three walks and three strikeouts. Marc Rzepczynski pitched to one batter and
retired him, John Axford pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Sean
Doolittle pitched a perfect inning.
Fernando Rodriguez won his first game of the season pitched two innings
giving up a hit and he struck out two and Ryan Madson saved his fifth game of
the season pitching an inning and striking out one.
Brett Gardner had a hit and drew a
walk, Starlin Castro had a hit and Carlos Beltran had a hit and an RBI. Mark Teixeira drew two walks, Rodriguez had
two hits and an RBI and Headley had two hits.
Didi Gregorius had a hit, Beltran, Gardner and Castro each hit a double
and the Yankees were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on
base. Gregorius and Ellsbury were each
caught stealing. McCann had a
pickoff.
Billy Burns had a hit, Chris
Coghlan had a hit and Josh Reddick drew a walk.
Danny Valencia had two hits, Jed Lowrie had four hits and an RBI and
Yonder Alonso had a hit. Mark Canha had
a hit and an RBI, Marcus Semien had a hit and an RBI and Lowrie hit a
double. Burns and Valencia each hit a
triple and the Athletics were 3-9 with runners in scoring position and left
eight men on base. Canha was caught
stealing and Valencia committed an error.
Surkamp had a pickoff.
In the first Rodriguez had an RBI
single to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.
In the second Semien hit an RBI single to tie the game at one. In the fifth Beltran hit a sac fly to give
the Yankees a 2-1 lead. In the sixth
Lowrie hit an RBI single to tie the game at two. In the 11th Canha hit an RBI single to give
the A's a 3-2 lead and that would be the final score of the game. The two teams will play game two of three on
Wednesday night. The Yankees are now 5-7
on the young season.
