New York Mets split a doubleheader with the St. Louis Cardinals



The New York Mets were defeated and defeated the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday afternoon/evening.  The games took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final scores were 3-2 in the first game won by the Cardinals and then 3-1 in the second game won by the Mets.  Noah Syndergaard started for the Mets in the first game and he pitched pretty well and the bullpen pitched well.  Curtis Granderson led the offense with a couple of hits. 

Syndergaard pitched six innings giving up seven hits and three runs with two of them being earned.  He walked three and struck out eight and lost his fifth game of the season.  Hansel Robles pitched an inning giving up a hit, Jerry Blevins pitched 1/3 of an inning striking out the only batter that he faced and Erik Goeddel pitched 2/3 of an inning with a strikeout.  Antonio Bastardo pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.

Carlos Martinez won his tenth game of the season pitching five innings and giving up five hits nad two runs with four walks and three strikeouts.  Tyler Lyons pitched two innings giving up a hit and he struck out one, Kevin Siegrist pitched an inning with a walk and a strikeout and Seung Hwan Oh pitched an inning giving up a hit and he earned his fifth save of the season. 

Jose Reyes had a hit, Granderson had two hits and drew a walk and Yoenis Cespedes had a hit and drew a walk.  James Loney had a hit and drew a walk, Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit and Rene Rivera had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk.  Syndergaard drew a walk, Cespedes hit a double and Rivera hit a homerun.  The Mets were 0-5 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base.  Syndergaard committed an error and Granderson had an outfield assist. 

Greg Garcia had a hit and drew a walk, Aledmys Diaz had a hit and Matt Adams drew two walks.  Jedd Gyorko had a hit and two RBI, Yadier Molina had two hits and Jeremy Hazaelbaker had a hit.  Tommy Pham had two hits, Molina and Garcia each hit a double and Gyorko hit a homerun.  The Cardinals were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left six runners on base.  Pham was caught stealing and Diaz committed an error. 

In the second inning Martinez reached on a throwing error and a run scored to make it 1-0 Cardinals.  In the third Gyorko hit a two run homerun to push the Cardinals lead to 3-0.  In the fourth Rivera hit a two run homerun to cut the lead to 3-2 but that would be as close as the Mets would come.  The final score would be 3-2. 

In the nightcap Bartolo Colon started for the Mets and pitched seven innings giving up three hits and a run with eight strikeouts.  Colon won his ninth game of the season.  Addison Reed pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts and Jeurys Familia pitched an inning giving up a hit and struck out two and he saved his 36th save of the season. 

Jaime Garcia pitched five innings giving up five hits and three runs with two of them being earned.  He walked none and struck out four and lost his seventh game of the season.  Matt Bowman pitched an inning giving up a hit and he walked two and struck out two, Sam Tuivailala pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Dean Kiekhefer pitched a perfect inning. 

Juan Lagares had a hit, Cabrera had a hit and two RBI and Wilmer Flores had three hits.  Neil Walker drew a walk, Alejandro De Aza had a hit and drew a walk, he hit a double and so did Cabrera and Flroes.  The Mets  2-14 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Lagares had two stolen bases. 

Garcia had two hits, Gyorko had a hit and an RBI and Alberto Rosario had a hit.  Rosario hit a double and Gyorko hit a homerun and the Cardinals were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left two men on base.  Grichuk committed an error. 

In the second Gyorko hit a solo homerun to give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead.  In the third Cabrera hit an RBI double to tie the game at one.  In the fourth Loney hit into a double play and a run scored to give the Mets a 2-1 lead.  In the fifth Cabrera hit a sac fly to push the Mets lead to 3-1.  The final score would be 3-1.  The two teams will finish their series on Wednesday night.
