New York Yankees can't complete the sweep in Houston



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Houston Astros on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas and the final score was 4-1.  Masahiro Tanaka started for the Yankees and he didn't pitch very well.  The bullpen was good  and Didi Gregorius led the offense with a couple of hits. 

Tanaka lost his third game of the season and he pitched five innings giving up seven hits and four runs with two walks and four strikeouts.  Adam Warren pitched an inning giving up a hit and Luis Severino pitched two innings giving up a walk and he struck out three. 

Lance McCullers pitched six innings giving up five hits and a run with two walks and ten strikeouts.  He won his sixth game of the season.  Ken Giles pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts, Luke Gregerson pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Will Harris pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts and he saved his 11th game of the season. 

Brett Gardner had a hit, Jacoby Ellsbury drew a walk and Brian McCann had a hit and an RBI.  Mark Teixeira had a hit, Gregorius had two hits and Starlin Castro drew a walk.  McCann hit a homerun and the Yankees were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. 

Marwin Gonzalez had a hit, Jose Altuve had two hits and Carlos Correa had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Colby Rasmus had a hit and two RBI, Preston Tucker drew a walk and Alex Bregman drew a walk.  Carlos Gomez had a hit and an RBI, Jake Marisnick had a hit and Jason Castro had a hit.  Castro and Marisnick each hit a double and Rasmus hit a homerun.  The Astros were 2-6 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Gomez had a stolen base and Marisnick was caught stealing and Castro had a passed ball. 

In the second Gomez hit an RBI single to give the Astros a 1-0 lead.  In the third Correa hit an RBI single to make it 2-0.  Rasmus hit a two run homerun to push the Astros lead to 4-0.  In the fourth McCann hit a solo homerun to make it 4-1. 

The Yankees won two out of three in this series and will be off on Thursday.  They will head to Tampa Bay to take on the Rays in a three game series beginning on Friday night.
