New York Yankee are shutout in Game 7 and fail to reach World Series


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Houston Astros on Saturday night.  The game took place at Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas and the final score was 4-0.  CC Sabathia started for the Yankees and he pitched ok.  The Yankees offense didn’t do much at all. 

Sabathia pitched 3 1/3 innings giving up five hits and a run with three walks.  Sabathia took the loss, Tommy Khanle pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up four hits and three-run with a strikeout, Adam Warren pitched 1 1/3 perfect innings and David Robertson pitched two innings giving up a hit and he struck out three. 

Charlie Morton picked up the win pitching five innings and giving up two hits and a walk with five strikeouts.  Lance McCullers Jr. earned the save pitching four innings and giving up a hit and a walk with six strikeouts. 

Brett Gardner had a hit, Gary Sanchez had a hit and Greg Bird had a hit.  Aaron Hicks drew a walk, Todd Frazier drew a walk and Bird hit a double.  The Yankees were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. 

George Springer had a hit, Alex Bregman had a hit and Jose Altuve had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Carlos Correa had two hits, Yuri Gurriel had a hit and Evan Gattis had a hit and an RBI.  Brian McCann had a hit, two RBI and drew two walks.  Marwin Gonzalez had a hit, Josh Reddick had a hit and McCann hit a double, Gattis and Altuve each hit a homerun.  The Astros were 1-9 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. 

In the fourth Gattis hit a solo homerun giving the Astros a 1-0 lead.  In the fifth Altuve hit a solo homerun and the lead was extended to 2-0.  McCann hit a two-run double and the lead was pushed to 4-0 and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees were not able to win a game in Houston and lost the series in seven games.  They had a remarkable run and came up just short of reaching the World Series.  The Houston Astros for the second time in their history will play in the World Series and take on the Los Angeles Dodgers who haven’t made it there since 1988. 


The New York Yankees come up short in Houston as the Astros force Game 7


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Houston Astros on Friday night.  The game took place at Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas and the final score was 7-1.   Luis Severino started for the Yankees and he didn’t pitch that well.  Chase Headley had a couple of hits to lead the offense. 

Severino pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up three hits and three runs with four walks and three strikeouts.  Severino took the loss.  Chad Green pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings giving up a walk and he struck out three, David Robertson didn’t record an out and he gave up four hits and four runs and Dellin Betances pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one. 

Justin Verlander picked up his second win of the series pitching seven scoreless and giving up five hits.  He walked one and struck out eight.  Brad Peacock pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout and Ken Giles pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout. 

Brett Gardner had a hit, Aaron Judge had a hit and an RBI and Didi Gregorius had a hit.  Gary Sanchez had a hit, Greg Bird drew a walk and Starlin Castro had a hit.  Aaron Hicks drew a walk, Headley had two hits and Judge hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 0-6 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Gregorius committed an error. 

George Springer drew a walk, Jose Altuve had two hits and three RBI and Carlos Correa had two hits.  Yuri Gurriel had a hit and drew a walk, Alex Bregman had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk and Marwin Gonzalez drew a walk.  Evan Gattis had an RBI and drew a walk, Brian McCann had two hits and an RBI, McCann, Correa and Bregman each hit a double.  Altuve hit a homerun and the Astros were 4-7 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. 

In the fifth McCann hit an RBI double to give the Astros a 1-0 lead.  Altuve hit a two-run single and the lead was pushed to 3-0.  In the eighth Judge hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 3-1.  In the bottom of the eighth Altuve hit a solo homerun, Bregman hit a two-run double and Gattis hit a sac fly to make it a 7-1 game which would be the final score. 

The Astros avoided elimination and forced a game seven on Saturday night in Houston.

New York Yankees win third straight over Astros to take series lead


The New York Yankees defeated the Houston Astros on Wednesday evening.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 5-0.  Masahiro Tanaka started for the Yankees and he was brilliant and Tommy Khanle closed it with two innings.  Gary Sanchez and Didi Gregorius each had two hits and Chase Headley had three hits. 

Tanaka pitched seven innings giving up no runs on three hits.  He walked one and struck out eight and picked up the win.  Khanle pitched two scoreless innings giving up a hit and he struck out one. 

Dallas Keuchel lost the game pitching 4 2/3 innings and giving up seven hits and four runs with a walk and eight strikeouts.  Will Harris pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout, Brad {eacock pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with three strikeouts and Francisco Liriano pitched an inning giving up a walk and he struck out one. 

Aaron Judge had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Sanchez had two hits and two RBI and Gregorius had two hits and an RBI.  Starlin Castro had a hit, Greg Bird had a hit, an RBI and drew two walks and Headley had three hits.  Castro, Judge, Headley and Gregorius each hit a double.  Sanchez hit a homerun and the Yankees were 3-13 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  T. Frazier committed an error. 

George Springer had a hit, Carlos Correa had a hit and Yuri Gurriel had a hit.  Marwin Gonzalez had a hit, Brian McCann drew a walk and Gurriel and Correa each hit a double.  The Astros were 0-8 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Bregman committed an error. 

In the second Bird hit an RBI single to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the third Judge hit an RBI double to extend the lead to 2-0.  In the fifth Sanchez hit an RBI single to push the lead to 3-0, Gregorius hit an RBI single making it 4-0 and in the seventh Sanchez hit a solo homerun to finish it off at 5-0. 

The Yankees now own a 3-2 lead in the series and game six is in Houston on Friday night.

New York Yankees defeated the Houston Astros in a thrilling comeback victory

The New York Yankees defeated the Houston Astros on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 6-4.  Sonny Gray started for the Yankees and he pitched well.  Aaron Judge, Didi Gregorius and Todd Frazier each had two hits. 
Gray pitched five plus innings giving up a hit and two runs with only one being earned.  He walked two and struck out four.  David Robertson pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk and a strikeout, Chad Green got the win pitching two innings and giving up a hit and an unearned run with two strikeouts and Aroldis Chapman picked up the save pitching a perfect inning with two strikeouts. 
Lance McCullers Jr. pitched six innings giving up two hits and a run with two walks and three strikeouts.  Chris Devenski pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk, Joe Musgrove pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and two runs and Ken Giles blew the save and picked up the loss pitching 1/3 of an inning and giving up three hits and two runs with a walk.  Luke Gregerson pitched 2/3 of an inning and gave up a walk. 
Brett Gardner had an RBI, Judge had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk and Gregorius had two hits.  Gary Sanchez had a hit and three RBI, Greg Bird drew three walks and Starlin Castro drew a walk.  T. Frazier had two hits, Chase Headley had a big pinch hit and Judge and Sanchez each hit a double.  Gregorius hit a triple and Judge hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 3-8 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Judge was caught stealing and Castro committed two errors and Romine had a catcher interference error.  Gardner had an outfield assist. 
George Springer drew a walk, Jose Altuve drew two walks and Yuli Gurriel had a hit and three RBI.  Carlos Beltran had a hit, Marwin Gonzalez had a hit and Beltran, Gurriel and Gonzalez each hit a double.  The Astros were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base. 
In the sixth Gurriel hit a three-run double giving the Astros a 3-0 lead.  In the seventh McCann reached on an error and a run scored to push the score to 4-0 Astros.  In the seventh Judge hit a solo homerun and Sanchez hit a sac fly to cut the lead to 4-2.  In the eighth Gardner hit an RBI ground out, Judge hit an RBI double and Sanchez hit a two-run double to give the Yankees the 6-4 lead and that would be the final score. 
The series is now tied at two games each with game five on Wednesday evening in New York.  There will be a game six on Friday night in Houston. 


The New York Yankees blow out the Houston Astros to get back in the series


The New York Yankees defeated the Houston Astros on Monday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 8-1.  CC Sabathia started for the Yankees and he pitched very well.  Aaron Judge and Todd Frazier each hit a three-run homerun to lead the offense. 

Sabathia pitched six innings giving up three hits and no runs.  He walked four and struck out five and he won the game.  Adam Warren pitched two scoreless innings giving up a walk and he struck out one, Dellin Betances walked the only two batters he faced and Tommy Khanle pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout.

Frazier and Judge each hit a homerun and the Yankees were 3-6 with runners in scoring position and left two men on base.  Gregorius was picked off and he committed an error. 

George Springer had a hit and drew a walk, Alex Bregman had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Jose Altuve drew a walk.  Carlos Correa had a hit, Evan Gattis drew a walk and Marwin Gonzalez drew a walk.  Josh Reddick drew a walk, Derek Fisher drew a walk and Cameron Maybin had a hit and drew a walk.  The Astros were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base.  Morton had a pickoff. 

In the second T. Frazier hit a three-run homerun to give the Yankees a 3-0 lead.  In the fourth Headley hit an RBI single to push the lead to 4-0.  A wild pitch made it a 5-0 game and a Judge three-run homerun extended the lead to 8-0.  In the ninth Bregman drew an RBI walk to cut the lead to 8-1 and that would be the final score. 
The Yankees now trail the series 2 games to 1 and will try to even the series on Tuesday

The Yankees lose on a walk-off and are down 0-2 in series


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Houston Astros on Saturday evening.  The game took place at Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas and the final score was 2-1.  Luis Severino started and pitched well but was pulled for safety reasons after the manager thought he might be hurt.  The Yankees bullpen was outstanding.  The Yankees once again only managed five hits on offense. 

Severino pitched four innings giving up two hits and a run with two walks.  Tommy Khanle pitched two innings with a walk and a strikeout, David Robertson pitched two innings giving up a hit and he struck out two and Aroldis Chapman pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout and he took the loss. 

Justin Verlander won the game pitching a complete game with five hits and a run.  He walked one and struck out 13. 

Brett Gardner had a hit, Didi Gregorius had a hit and Greg Bird drew a walk.  Starlin Castro had a hit, Aaron Hicks had a hit and Todd Frazier had a hit and an RBI.  Gardner, Hicks and Frazier each hit a double.  The Yankees were 1-2 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base. 

Jose Altuve had two hits, Carlos Correa had two hits and two RBI with a walk and Yuri Gurriel had a hit and drew a walk.  Alex Bregman drew a walk, Gurriel and Correa each hit a double.  Correa hit a homerun and the Astros were 0-2 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Reddick had an outfield assist. 

In the fourth Correa hit a solo homerun that was reviewed but was upheld.  The Astros took a 1-0 lead.  In the fifth Frazier hit an RBI double to tie the game at one.  The game ended in the bottom of the ninth on a Correa RBI double.  If Gary Sanchez caught the relay throw though Altuve who scored the winning run was out by about ten feet. 

The Yankees have suffered back-to-back heart breakers in Houston to trail the ALCS 2 games to none but they will get a day off and then be home for Monday and Tuesday and Wednesday if  necessary.

In the fourth Correa hit an RBI single to give the Astros a 1-0 lead.  Gurriel hit an RBI single to push the lead to 2-0.  In the ninth Bird hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 2-1 and that would be the final score.  The two teams will play game two of the ALCS on Saturday afternoon.

New York Yankees defeat the Cleveland Indians to advance to the ALCS


The New York Yankees defeated the Cleveland Indians on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio and the final score was 5-2.  CC Sabathia pitched very well and the bullpen was great.  Brett Gardner and Didi Gregorius each had three hits to lead the offense. 

Sabathia pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up five hits and two runs with no walks and nine strikeouts.  David Robertson pitched 2 2/3 innings with a walk and two strikeouts and earned the win and Aroldis Chapman earned the save pitching two innings and giving up a walk and he struck out four. 

Corey Kluber lost the game pitching 3 2/3 innings giving up three hits and three runs with two walks and six strikeouts.  Andrew Miller pitched two innings giving up two hits and he struck out five, Brian Shaw pitched two innings giving up a hit and he struck out three and Cody Allen pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs with one of them being earned.  He walked one and struck out two and Joe Smith retired the only batter that he faced.

Francisco Lindor had a hit, Jose Ramirez drew a walk and Austin Jackson had a hit.  Jay Bruce had a hit and drew a walk, Roberto Perez had a hit and an RBI and Giovanny Urshela had a hit and an RBI.  The Indians were 2-5 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Perez, Jackson and Bruce each committed an error. 

In the first Gregorius hit a solo homerun giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the third Gregorius hit a two-run homerun to push the Yankees lead to 3-0.  In the fifth Perez hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 3-1 and Urshela hit an RBI single to cut it to 3-2.  In the ninth Gardner hit an RBI single and a run scored on an error pushing the lead to 5-2 and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees won the ALDS 3 games to two and advanced to the ALCS to take on the Houston Astros.  It is the first time in five years the Yankees will be in the ALCS.  The series begins on Friday night in Houston.

New York Yankees force a Game 5 with a convincing victory


The New York Yankees defeated the Cleveland Indians in Game 4 of the ALDS on Monday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 7-3.  Luis Severino started for the Yankees and he pitched well.  Brett Gardner had two hits to lead the offense. 

Severino pitched seven innings giving up four hits and three runs with a walk and nine strikeouts.  Severino picked up the win, Dellin Betances walked the two batters he faced and Tommy Khanle pitched two perfect innings with five strikeouts and picked up the save. 

Trevor Bauer lost the game pitching 1 2/3 innings and giving up four hits and four unearned runs with two walks and three strikeouts.  Joe Smith pitched to one batter and retired him, Mike Clevinger pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and an unearned run with two walks and a strikeout and Danny Salazar pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up an unearned run with two walks and three strikeouts.  Tyler Olson pitched to one batter and retired him, Brian Shaw pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout and Cody Allen pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two.  Josh Tomlin pitched an inning with a strikeout. 

Gardner had two hits and an RBI, Aaron Judge had a hit and two RBI and Didi Gregorius drew three walks.  Gary Sanchez had a hit and an RBI, Greg Bird had a hit and drew a walk and Starlin Castro had a hit and drew a walk.  Todd Frazier had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Aaron Hicks had a hit and an RBI and T. Frazier, Judge and Castro each hit a double.  Sanchez hit a homerun and the Yankees were 4-13 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base.  Gardner had a stolen base. 

Francisco Lindor drew a walk, Jay Bruce had a hit and drew a walk and Carlos Santana had a hit and two RBI.  Michael Brantley had a hit, Roberto Perez had a hit and an RBI and Yan Gomes drew a walk.  Santana and Perez each hit a homerun and the Indians were 0-3 with four men left on base.  Urshela committed two errors, Salazar and Santana each committed an error.  Perez had a passed ball. 

In the second T. Frazier hit an RBI double and Hicks hit an RBI single to make it 2-0 Yankees.  Judge hit a two-run double and the lead was increased to 4-0.  In the third Gardner reached on a throwing error and the lead was pushed to 5-0.  In the fourth Santana hit a two-run homerun to cut the lead to 5-2.  IN the fifth Perez hit a solo homerun and the lead was cut to 5-3.  In the fifth Gardner hit a sac fly to push the lead to 6-3.  In the sixth Sanchez hit a solo homerun to extend the lead to 7-3 and that would be the final score. 

There will be a game five in Cleveland on Wednesday night.  It is a winner take all with the winner facing Houston in the ALCS.

The New York Yankees shutout the Cleveland Indians and stay alive


The New York Yankees defeated the Cleveland Indians on Sunday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 1-0.  It was a great game that kept the Yankees alive and headed to game four in NY on Monday night.  Masahiro Tanaka started for the Yankees and he pitched great.  Greg Bird was the only offense for either team with a homerun. 

Tanaka pitched seven innings giving up three hits and no runs.  He walked one and struck out seven and earned the win.  David Robertson pitched 1/3 of an inning walking a batter and Aroldis Chapman picked up the save pitching 1 2/3 innings and giving up two hits and no runs with no walks and four strikeouts. 

Carlos Carrasco pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up three hits and no runs.  He walked three and struck out seven.  Andrew Miller took the loss pitching 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run, Tyler Olson pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two and Joe Smith pitched an inning giving up a walk and he struck out two. 

Brett Gardner had a hit, Aaron Judge drew a walk and Gary Sanchez had a hit.  Didi Gregorious had a hit and drew two walks, Bird had a hit and an RBI and Jacoby Ellsbury drew a walk.  Aaron Hicks had a hit, Gardner hit a double and Bird hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. 

Jason Kipnis had two hits, Jose Ramirez had a hit and Carlos Santana had a hit and drew a walk.  Michael Brantley drew a walk, Roberto Perez had a hit and Kipnis hit a triple and the Indians were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. 

In the seventh Bird hit a solo homerun to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead and that would be the only run of the game.  The Yankees stayed alive and force game four on Monday night in New York.  The Yankees will look to force a fifth and decisive game and if not the Indians will advance to the ALCS.   

New York Yankees with a terrible extra inning loss in Cleveland


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Cleveland Indians on Friday evening.  The game took place at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio and the final score was 9-8 in 13 innings.  It was game 2 of the ALDS and there was controversy.  CC Sabathia started for the Yankees and he pitched well after a shaky start.  Todd Frazier had three hits to lead the offense. 

Sabathia pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up three hits and four runs with two of them being earned.  He walked three and struck out five.  Chad Green pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and three runs, David Robertson pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and a run with three strikeouts and Tommy Khanle pitched to two batters and retired them both.  Aroldis Chapman pitched two innings giving up two hits and a walk with two strikeouts, Dellin Betances took the loss and pitched two innings giving up a hit and a run with a walk and two strikeouts.

Francisco Lindor had a hit, four RBI and drew a walk, Jason Kipnis had two hits and an RBI and Jose Ramirez drew a walk.  Carlos Santana had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk, Jay Bruce had a hit and an RBI and Austin Jackson had two hits and drew a walk.  Yan Gomes had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk, Gomes hit a double and Lindor and Bruce each hit a homerun and the Indians were 4-8 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Jackson hit a stolen base, Ramirez and Gonzalez each committed an error.  Gomes was picked off. 

In the first Sanchez hit a two-run homerun to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  In the bottom of the first Santana hit a two-run single to tie the game at two.  In the second Kipnis hit an RBI single to give Cleveland a 3-2 lead.  In the third Castro hit an RBI single to tie the game at three.  Hicks hit a three-run homerun and the Yankees took a 6-3 lead.  In the fifth Bird hit a two-run homerun extending the Yankees lead to 8-3.  In the sixth Lindor hit a grand-slam to cut the lead to 8-7.  In the eighth Bruce hit a solo homerun tying the game at eight.  In the 13th inning Gomes hit an RBI walk-off single to give the Indians the 9-8 victory. 

This game had controversy.  In the sixth before Lindor hit his grand-slam there was a hit-by-pitch that actually hit the knob of the bat and was caught by Sanchez for what would have been strike three but Joe Girardi did not challenge and instead it was ruled a hit by pitch and set up the bases loaded for the grand slam to happen.  If it was challenged it would have been 8-3 Yankees in the seventh inning.  Instead the Yankees are down 0-2 headed to NY to try and avoid the sweep.   

The New York Yankees were defeated by the Cleveland Indians on Friday evening.  The game took place at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio and the final score was 9-8 in 13 innings.  It was game 2 of the ALDS and there was controversy.  CC Sabathia started for the Yankees and he pitched well after a shaky start.  Todd Frazier had three hits to lead the offense. 

Sabathia pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up three hits and four runs with two of them being earned.  He walked three and struck out five.  Chad Green pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and three runs, David Robertson pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and a run with three strikeouts and Tommy Khanle pitched to two batters and retired them both.  Aroldis Chapman pitched two innings giving up two hits and a walk with two strikeouts, Dellin Betances took the loss and pitched two innings giving up a hit and a run with a walk and two strikeouts. 

Corey Kluber pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up seven hits and six runs.  He walked one and struck out four.  Tyler Olson pitched a perfect inning, Mike Clevinger pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and two runs with two walks and two strikeouts and Bryan Shaw pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up a hit and he struck out one.  Andrew Miller pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit, Joe Smith pitched 2/3 of an inning striking out one and Cody Allen pitched two innings giving up a hit and he walked two and struck out one.  Josh Tomlin picked up the win pitching two perfect innings with three strikeouts. 

Aaron Judge drew three walks, Gary Sanchez had two hits and two RBI and Didi Gregorius drew a walk.  Starllin Castro had two hits and an RBI, Greg Bird had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk and Aaron Hicks had two hits and three RBI.  T. Frazier had three hits, Castro hit a double and Sanchez, Hicks and Bird each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 2-7 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  T. Frazier was caught stealing and Torreyes was picked off and T. Frazier committed two errors and Chapman committed an error. 

Francisco Lindor had a hit, four RBI and drew a walk, Jason Kipnis had two hits and an RBI and Jose Ramirez drew a walk.  Carlos Santana had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk, Jay Bruce had a hit and an RBI and Austin Jackson had two hits and drew a walk.  Yan Gomes had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk, Gomes hit a double and Lindor and Bruce each hit a homerun and the Indians were 4-8 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Jackson hit a stolen base, Ramirez and Gonzalez each committed an error.  Gomes was picked off. 

In the first Sanchez hit a two-run homerun to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  In the bottom of the first Santana hit a two-run single to tie the game at two.  In the second Kipnis hit an RBI single to give Cleveland a 3-2 lead.  In the third Castro hit an RBI single to tie the game at three.  Hicks hit a three-run homerun and the Yankees took a 6-3 lead.  In the fifth Bird hit a two-run homerun extending the Yankees lead to 8-3.  In the sixth Lindor hit a grand-slam to cut the lead to 8-7.  In the eighth Bruce hit a solo homerun tying the game at eight.  In the 13th inning Gomes hit an RBI walk-off single to give the Indians the 9-8 victory.

New York Yankees shutout by Cleveland Indians in Game 1 of ALDS


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Cleveland Indians on Thursday night.  The game took place at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio and the final score was 4-0.  It was game 1 of the ALDS and the Yankees were completely shut down by Trevor Bauer.  Sonny Gray started for the Yankees and struggled with his command, the bullpen was good. The Yankees offense only managed three hits and two of them were by Starlin Castro. 

Gray pitched 3 1/3 innings giving up three hits and three runs with four walks and two strikeouts.  Gray took the loss.  Adam Warren pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout, Jamie Garcia pitched 2 2/3 innings with two walks and three strikeouts and Dellin Betances pitched a perfect inning striking out the side. 

Bauer picked up the win pitching 6 2/3 innings giving up two hits and a walk.  He struck out eight.  Andrwe Miller pitched an inning with two walks and three strikeouts and Cody Allen picked up the save pitching 1 1/3 innings and giving up a hit and he struck out three. 

Brett Gardner drew a walk, Castro had two hits and Greg Bird drew a walk.  Chase Headley drew a walk, Aaron Hicks had a hit and Hicks hit a double and the Yankees were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. 

Francisco Lindor drew two walks, Jose Ramirez had a hit and Edwin Encarnacion drew a walk.  Jay Bruce had two hits and three RBI, Carlos Santana had a hit and drew a walk and Roberto Perez drew two walks.  Giovanny Urshela had a hit, Bruce hit a double and he hit a homerun and the Indians were 2-9 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. 

In the second Perez grounded into a double play and a run scored giving the Indians a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Bruce hit a two-run homerun to extend the lead to 3-0.  In the fifth Bruce hit a sac fly to make it 4-0 and that would be the final score.  The two teams will play game two of the series on Friday evening.

New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies in extra innings


The New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday.  The game took place at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and the final score was 7-4 in 11 innings.  Seth Lugo started for the Mets and he pitched well.  Asdrubal Cabrera led the offense with four hits and four RBI. 

Lugo pitched four innings giving up six hits and two runs.  He walked none and struck out four.  Chasen Bradford pitched a perfect inning, Josh Smoker pitched 2/3 of an inning with a strikeout and Paul Sewald pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two runs with three walks and two strikeouts.  Jamie Callahan pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit, Jerry Blevins pitched to one batter and retired him and AJ Ramos pitched an inning with two strikeouts.  Jacob Rhame pitched two perfect innings with two strikeouts and won his first game of the season and Jeurys Familia earned his sixth save pitching a perfect inning with two strikeouts. 

Henderson Alvarez pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up five hits and three runs with six walks.  Zac Curtis pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout, Hoby Milner pitched 2/3 of an inning with a walk and Victor Arano pitched an inning with two strikeouts.  Hector Neris pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one, Edubray Ramos pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Adam Morgan pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and three runs with a walk and a strikeout and he lost his third game of the season.  Yacksel Rios pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he walked one and struck out one. 

Nori Aoki drew three walks, Jose Reyes had a hit and drew a walk and Cabrera had four hits and four RBI.  Brandon Nimmo had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk, Kevin Plawecki had two hits and drew three walks and Dominic Smith drew two walks.  Amed Rosario had a hit and an RBI, Juan Lagares had a hit and Phillip Evans had a hit.  Rosario, Lagares and Cabrera each hit a double.  Nimmo hit a triple and Cabrera hit a homerun.  The Mets were 4-16 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base. 

Cesar Hernandez had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, J.P. Crawford had a hit and drew a walk and Aaron Altherr had a hit and an RBI.  Rhys Hoskins had a hit and an RBI, Nick Williams had a hit and Maikel Franco had a hit and an RBI.  Jorge Alfaro had a hit, Freddy Galvis drew a walk and Alfaro hit a double and Franco hit a homerun.  The Phillies were 2-6 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Alfaro had a passed ball and Williams had an outfield assist. 

In the second Franc hit a solo homerun to give the Phillies a 1-0 lead.  Hernandez hit an RBI single to push the lead to 2-0.  In the fourth Rosario hit an RBI double to cut the lead to 2-1.  In the fifth Nimmo hit a two-run triple to give the Mets a 3-2 lead.  In the seventh Cabrera hit an RBI double to extend the lead to 4-2.  In the bottom of the seventh Altherr hit a sac fly to cut the lead to 4-3.  Hoskins hit an RBI single to tie the game at four.  In the 11th Cabrera hit a three-run homerun to give the Mets a 7-4 lead and that would be the final score.

The Mets drop one to the Philadelphia Phillies


The New York Mets were defeated by the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday night.  The game took place at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and the final score was 6-2.  Matt Harvey started for the Mets and he didn’t pitch well.  Nori Aoki, Asdrubal Cabrera and Juan Lagares each had two hits to lead the offensive attack. 

Harvey lost his seventh game of the season pitching four innings and giving up seven hits and four runs.  He walked three and struck out three.  Hansel Robles pitched two innings giving up three hits and two runs, Kevin McGowan pitched a perfect inning and Jacob Rhame pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Ben Lively pitched six innings giving up six hits and two runs with a strikeout and he won his fourth game of the season.  Adam Morgan pitched an inning giving up a walk and he struck out two, Luis Garcia pitched an inning giving up two hits and he struck out one and Edubray Ramos pitched an inning giving up two hits. 

Aoki had two hits, Jose Reyes had a hit and an RBI and Cabrera had two hits.  Travis d’Arnaud had a hit, Dominic Smith had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Lagares had two hits.  Phillip Evans had a hit, Reyes and Smith each hit a homerun and the Mets were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Cabrera committed an error and Lagares had an outfield assist. 

Cesar Hernandez had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Freddy Galvis had a hit and drew a walk and Nick Williams had two hits.  Rhys Hoskins had a hit, Odubel Herrera had two hits and an RBI and Maikel Franco had a hit and two RBI.  Jorge Alfaro had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk, Alfaro hit a double and Franco, Alfaro and Hernandez each hit a homerun.  The Phillies were 2-7 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. 

In the first Reyes hit a solo homerun giving the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the second Franco hit a two-run homerun to give the Phillies a 2-1 lead.  In the third Herrera hit a sac fly to extend the Phillies lead to 3-1.  A balk made the score 4-1.  In the fifth Smith hit a solo homerun cutting the lead to 4-2.  In the sixth Alfaro hit a solo homerun and Hernandez hit a solo homerun pushing the lead to 6-2 and that would be the final score.

The New York Yankees defeated the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 2-1.  CC Sabathia started for the Yankees and he pitched well.  Todd Frazier had two hits to lead the Yankees offense. 

Sabathia pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up four hits and no runs.  He walked none and struck out six and won his 14th game of the season.  Chad Green pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and he struck out one, Tommy Khanle pitched giving up a hit and a run and David Robertson pitched an inning giving up a walk and he struck out two.  Aroldis Chapman pitched an inning with a strikeout and saved his 22nd game of the season. 

Marcus Stroman pitched four innings giving up six hits and two runs with a walk and two strikeouts.  He lost his ninth game of the season.  Aaron Loup pitched 1/3 of an inning and he walked two batters, Carlos Ramirez pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and he struck out two and Matt Dermody pitched 1/3 of an inning with a walk.  Dominic Leone pitched to two batters and struck them both out and Tim Mayza pitched an inning with two strikeouts.

New York Yankees shutout the Toronto Blue Jays


The New York Yankees defeated the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 4-0.  Masahiro Tanaka started for the Yankees and he pitched great.  Didi Gregorius and Greg Bird each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Tanaka pitched seven innings giving up three hits and no runs.  He didn’t walk a batter and he struck out 15 and won his 13th game of the season.  David Robertson pitched an inning giving up a walk and he struck out one, Dellin Betances gave up a hit and a walk without recording an out and Aroldis Chapman saved his 21st game of the season pitching a perfect inning with two strikeouts. 

Joe Biagini pitched five innings giving up six hits and three runs.  He walked one and struck out three and lost his 13th game of the season.  Matt Dermody pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout, Danny Barnes pitched to two batters and retired them both and Tom Koehler pitched an inning giving up a walk and he struck out three.  Mayza pitched an inning with two strikeouts. 

Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit, Aaron Judge had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Gregorius had two hits.  Starlin Castro had a hit and an RBI, Bird had two hits and two RBI and Todd Frazier drew a walk.  Austin Romine had a hit, Bird hit a double and the Yankees were 4-8 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Ellsbury, Castro, Hicks and Gregorius each stole a base and Romine had a passed ball.  Tanaka had a pickoff.

New York Yankees fail to sweep the Tampa Bay Rays


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Tampa Bay Rays on Thursday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 9-6.  Sonny Gray started for the Yankees and he didn’t pitch well.  Jacoby Ellsbury led the offense with a couple of hits. 

Gray lost his 12th game of the season pitching 4 2/3 innings giving up six hits and six runs with five walks and two strikeouts.  Jonathan Holder pitched giving up two hits and two runs without recording an out, Chase Shreve pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk and two strikeouts and Ben Heller pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up a walk and he struck out two.  Giovanny Gallegos pitched a perfect inning. 

Jake Faria pitched three innings giving up four hits and three runs with two of them being earned.  He walked two and struck out two.  Chih-Wei Hu pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run, Tommy Hunter pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk and two strikeouts and Jose Alvarado pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one.  Sergio Romo pitched an inning walking one and striking out one, Dan Jennings pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Chaz Roe pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout.

In the first Dickerson hit a solo homerun to give the Rays a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the first Gardner hit a solo homerun to tie the game at one.  Judge hit a solo homerun going back-to-back to make it 2-1.  In the second T. Frazier hit an RBI single to push the lead to 3-1.  In the fourth Bird hit a solo homerun to extend the lead to 4-1.  In the fifth a wild pitch made it 4-2.  A passed ball cut the lead to 4-3 and Ramos hit a two-run homerun to give the Rays a 5-4 lead.  Puello hit an RBI single to make it a 6-4 game and Bourjos hit a two-run triple to push the lead to 8-4.  In the fifth Castro hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 8-5.  In the sixth Plouffe hit a solo homerun to push it to 9-5.  In the ninth Hicks hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 9-6 and that would be the final score.   

New York Yankees win second straight over Tampa Bay Rays 6-1


The New York Yankees defeated the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 6-1.  Luis Severino started for the Yankees and he pitched well and the bullpen did their job.  Brett Gardner, Chase Headley and Aaron Hicks each had two hits. 

Severino pitched six innings giving up four hits and a run with a walk and nine strikeouts and won his 14th game of the season.  Chase Shreve pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout, Chad Green pitched to one batter and got him out and Dellin Betances pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.  Aroldis Chapman pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.

In the fifth Hechavarria hit a solo homerun to give the Rays a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the fifth Judge hit a two-run double to give the Yankees a 2-1 lead.  In the sixth Castro hit a solo homerun to push the Yankees lead to 3-1.  Bird hit a solo homerun and Hicks hit a two-run homerun to extend the lead to 6-1 and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees will look for the sweep on Thursday night.

The New York Yankees defeated the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 6-1.  Jordan Montgomery started for the Yankees and he pitched well.  Starlin Castro led the offense with three hits. 

Montgomery pitched six innings giving up six hits and a run.  He walked one and struck out five and won his ninth game of the season.  Tommy Khanle pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts, David Robertson pitched an inning giving up a walk and he struck out one and Dellin Betances pitched a perfect inning. 

Blake Snell pitched an inning giving up four hits and four runs with four walks and a strikeout.  Snell lost his seventh game of the season.  Chaz Roe pitched two innings giving up a walk and he struck out two, Andrew Kittredge pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout and Brad Boxberger pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one.  Sergio Romo pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one, Dan Jennings pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Austin Pruitt pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs with two walks.

The New York Mets lose a close one to the Washington Nationals


The New York Mets were defeated by the Washington Nationals on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 3-2.  Jacob deGrom started for the Mets and he pitched well.  Jose Reyes, Amed Rosario and Juan Lagares each had two hits. 

deGrom pitched six innings giving up five hits and three runs with two of them being earned.  He walked none and struck out 11.  deGrom lost his 10th game of the season.  Hansel Robles pitched two innings giving up a walk and he struck out one and Paul Sewald pitched a perfect inning. 

Max Scherzer won his 16th game of the season pitching six innings and giving up three hits and a run with a walk and ten strikeouts.  Joe Blanton pitched an inning with a walk, Ryan Madson pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up three hits and a run with a walk and two strikeouts and Sammy Solis pitched to one batter and struck him out.  Brandon Kintzler pitched an inning giving up two hits and he saved his 29th game of the season. 

Nori Aoki had a hit, Reyes had two hits and an RBI and Brandon Nimmo had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Travis d’Arnaud drew a walk, Phillip Evans drew a walk and Rosario had two hits.  Lagares had two hits, Rosario hit a double and Nimmo hit a homerun.  The Mets were 1-9 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Reyes had two stolen bases and d’Arnaud committed an error. 

Trea Turner had a hit and two RBI, Alejandro De Aza drew a walk and Daniel Murphy had a hit.  Michael Taylor had a hit, Jose Lobaton had two hits and an RBI and Murphy hit a triple.  Turner hit a homerun and the Nationals were 1-2 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Taylor had a stolen base and Robles had an outfield assist. 

In the first Nimmo hit a solo homerun to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the third Turner hit a two-run homerun to give the Nationals a 2-1 lead.  In the fifth Lobaton hit an RBI single to make it 3-1 Nationals.  In the eighth Reyes hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 3-2 but that would be the final score.

New York Yankees defeat Kansas City Royals in makeup game


The New York Yankees defeated the Kansas City Royals on Monday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 11-3.  CC Sabathia started for the Yankees and he pitched well.  Gary Sanchez, Didi Gregorius and Ronald Torreyes each had three hits to lead the offense. 

Sabathia pitched six innings giving up three runs on six hits.  He walked one and struck out four and won his 13th game of the season.  Chad Green pitched an inning giving up a walk and he struck out one, David Robertson pitched a perfect inning with three strikeouts and Tommy Khanle pitched an inning giving up a walk and he struck out two. 

Jakob Junis pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up seven hits and six runs with a walk and four strikeouts.  Junis lost his third game of the season.  Ryan Buchter pitched to one batter and struck him out, Trevor Cahill pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up four hits and two runs with a walk and Scott Alexander pitched 1/3 of an inning and gave up a walk.  Mike Morin pitched an inning giving up four hits and three runs with a walk. 

Brett Gardner had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk, Aaron Judge had two hits, three RBI and drew a walk and Sanchez had three hits and an RBI.  Gregorius had three hits and two RBI and Matt Holliday had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk.  Greg Bird had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk, Torreyes had three hits and Sanchez, Holliday and Gardner each hit a double and Torreyes hit two doubles.  Judge hit two homeruns and Bird and Sanchez each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 4-10 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. 

Lorenzo Cain had a hit and drew a walk, Melky Cabrera had a hit and Eric Hosmer had a hit.  Salvador Perez had a hit and two RBI, Mike Moustakas had a hit and an RBI and Jorge Bonifacio had a hit and drew two walks.  Cain hit a double and Perez and Moustakas each hit a homerun.  The Royals were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Bonifacio was caught stealing and Bonifacio committed an error. 

In the first Gregorius hit an RBI ground out giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the third Judge hit a two-run homerun to extend the lead to 3-0.  In the sixth Holliday hit an RBI double, Bird hit a two-run homerun and the lead was pushed to 6-0.  In the seventh Perez hit a two-run homerun and Moustakas hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 6-3.  In the bottom of the seventh Judge hit a solo homerun and Sanchez hit a solo homerun which was back-to-back to make it an 8-3 game.  In the eighth Gardner hit an RBI double, Gregorius hit an RBI single and Holliday hit a sac fly to make it a 11-3 game which would be the final.   

The New York Yankees drop rubber game to the Toronto Blue Jays


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada and the final score was 9-5.  Jaime Garcia started for the Yankees and he didn’t pitch very well.  The Yankees bullpen was pretty good other than Bryan Mitchell who had a rough outing.  Aaron Judge and Starlin Castro each had two hits. 

Garcia pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up four hits and five runs.  He walked three and struck out four and lost his 10th game of the season.  Jonathan Holder pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one, Mitchell pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up four hits and four runs with two walks and Ben Heller pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and he struck out one.  Giovanny Gallegos pitched two innings giving up a hit and he struck out two and Dellin Betances pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Marcus Stroman pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up five hits and three runs with four walks and two strikeouts.  He won his 13th game of the season.  Matt Dermody pitched to one batter and gave up a hit, Ryan Tepera pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and two runs and Aaron Loup pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two.  Tom Koehler pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Roberto Osuna pitched a perfect inning striking out the side. 

Chase Headley had a hit and drew a walk, Judge had two hits, three RBI and drew a walk and Didi Gregorius had a hit and an RBI.  Castro had two hits, Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit and Todd Frazier drew a walk.  Greg Bird had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Austin Romine had a hit and Romine, Ellsbury and Bird each hit a double.  Judge hit two homeruns and the Yankees were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  T. Frazier committed an error and Gardner had an outfield assist. 

Teoscar Hernandez had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Josh Donaldson had a hit and an RBI and Justin Smoak had a hit and drew a walk.  Jose Bautista had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk, Kendrys Morales had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk and Kevin Pillar had a hit.  Russell Martin had two hits and three RBI, Darwin Barney had an RBI and Ryan Goins had two hits and drew a walk.  Pillar and Smoak each hit a double and Martin hit two doubles.  Hernandez hit a homerun and the Blue Jays were 4-13 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Pillar had a stolen base. 

In the first Hernandez hit a solo homerun giving the Blue Jays a 1-0 lead.  In the second Barney hit a sac fly to extend the lead to 2-0.  In the third Martin hit a three-run double to push the lead to 5-0 Blue Jays.  In the fourth Gregorius hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 5-1.  In the bottom of the fourth Donaldson hti an RBI single to make it a 6-1 game.  Bautista hit an RBI single, Morales hit a two-run single and the lead was pushed to 9-1.  Judge hit a solo homerun in the sixth and Bird hit an RBI double to cut the lead to 9-3.  In the seventh Judge hit a two-run homerun and the lead was cut to 9-5 but that would be the final score. 

The Yankees clinched a wild card spot but lost two out of three in the series.  They will now return home to play a make-up game with the Kansas City Royals on Monday afternoon and then a three game series with the Tampa Bay Rays after that and finish with three game against the Toronto Blue Jays.
