The New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia
Phillies on Tuesday night. The game took
place at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and the final score
was 14-4. Matt Harvey started for the
Mets and he pitched well. He left early
with a strained hamstring but said he will be fine for his next start. Asdrubal Cabrera and Yoenis Cespedes each had
four hits. Cespedes hit three homeruns
to lead the offense.
Harvey pitched 5 2/3 innings giving
up five hits and two runs with a walk and six strikeouts. Harvey won his second game of the
season. Hansel Robles pitched 1 1/3
innings striking out two, Josh Edgin pitched an inning giving up two hits and
two runs and Paul Sewald pitched an inning giving up a hit and he walked one.
Clay Buchholz lost his first game
of the season pitching 2 1/3 innings giving up eight hits and six runs with a
walk and two strikeouts. Adam Morgan
pitched 3 2/3 innings giving up seven hits and four runs with two walks and
five strikeouts, Joely Rodriguez pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up four hits and
three runs with two walks and two strikeouts and Jeanmar Gomez pitched 1 1/3
innings giving up a hit and a run.
Curtis Granderson had a hit and
drew two walks, Cabrera had four hits and two RBI and Cespedes had four hits
and five RBI. Jay Bruce had a hit and
two RBI, Neil Walker had two hits and Lucas Duda had four hits and two
RBI. Jose Reyes had a hit, Travis d’Arnaud
had three hits, three RBI and drew a walk and Ty Rivera drew a walk. Cabrera, Granderson, Reyes, Duda, d’Arnaud
and Cespedes each hit a double. Cespedes
hit three homeruns and the Mets were 6-16 with runners in scoring position and
left 11 men on base. Cesar Hernandez had
two hits, Howie Kendrick had a hit and drew a walk and Daniel Nava had a hit
and an RBI. Odubel Herrera had a hit,
Maikel Franco had a hit and two RBI and Michael Saunders had an RBI. Cameron Rupp drew a walk, Morgan had a hit
and Andrew Knapp had a hit. Hernandez
and Nava hit a double and Franco hit a homerun and the Phillies were 1-7 with
runners in scoring position and left six men on base.
In the first Cespedes hit a
three-run homerun giving the Mets a 3-0 lead.
In the second Bruce hit a two-run single and the lead was extended to
5-0. In the second Franco hit a solo
homerun to cut the lead to 5-1. In the
third d’Arnaud hit an RBI single and the lead was pushed to 6-1. Cabrera hit a solo homerun in the fourth and
Cespedes also hit a solo homerun and the lead was 8-1 In the fourth Saunders hit into an RBI force
out to cut the lead to 8-2. In the fifth
Cespedes hit his third homer a solo shot to make it a 9-2 game. In the sixth Duda hit a solo homerun and the
lead was 10-2. d’Arnaud hit a two-run
homerun in the eighth and Cabrera hit an RBI single to make it 13-2. Nava hit an RBI double and Franco hit an RBI
ground out in the bottom of the eighth to cut the lead to 13-4. Duda hit his second homerun of the game in
the ninth a solo shot to make it 14-4 and that was the final score.
The Mets have taken the first two
games of the series and will play game three on Wednesday night. They will be looking to sweep the series.
