New York Mets were defeated by the Seattle Mariners


The New York Mets were defeated by the Seattle Mariners on Saturday evening.  The game took place at Safeco Field in Seattle, Washington and the final score was 3-2.  Jacob deGrom started for the Mets and he pitched ok, the bullpen was good again.  Yoenis Cespedes, Wilmer Flores and Travis d’Arnaud each had two hits to lead the offense. 

deGrom pitched six innings giving up five hits and three runs with two of them being earned.  He walked one and struck out ten and lost his fourth game of the season.  Fernando Salas pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and he struck out one, Josh Smoker pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out two and Erik Goeddel pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit. 

Yovani Gallardo pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up five hits and a run with two walks and two strikeouts.  Gallardo won his fifth game of the season.  Tony Zych pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and walking two, Marc Rzepczynski pitched an inning giving up a walk and striking out one and Nick Vincent pitched a perfect inning.  Edwin Diaz pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout.  Diaz saved his 19th game of the season. 

Michael Conforto had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Cespedes had two hits and Neil Walker had a hit.  Curtis Granderson drew three walks, Flores had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and d’Arnaud had two hits.  Flores hit a double and the Mets were 1-9 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Walker committed an error and Conforto had an outfield assist. 

Jean Segura had a hit, Ben Gamel had a hit and Nelson Cruz had a hit and an RBI.  Kyle Seager had two hits and drew a walk, Danny Valencia had a hit and Guillermo Heredia had a hit.  Jarrod Dyson had two hits and two RBI, Seager hit a double and the Mariners were 2-10 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Dyson had a stolen base and Seager was caught stealing. 

In the second Dyson hit a two-run single to give the Mariners a 2-0 lead.  In the third Cruz hit a sac fly to extend the lead to 3-0.  In the sixth Flores drew an RBI walk and in the ninth Conforto hit an RBI single cutting the lead to 3-2 but that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play the rubber game on Sunday afternoon.
