New York Yankees lose a close one to the Detroit Tigers


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 4-3.  CC Sabathia started for the Yankees and he pitched ok.  The Yankees bullpen pitched well and the offense was led by Gary Sanchez, Didi Gregorius and Matt Holliday who each had two hits. 

Sabathia pitched six innings giving up six hits and four runs with a walk and three strikeouts.  Sabathia lost his fourth game of the season.  Adam Warren pitched two innings giving up a walk and a strikeout and David Robertson pitched an inning giving up three hits and no runs with two strikeouts. 

Anibel Sanchez won his third game of the season pitching 6 2/3 innings and giving up six hits and two runs with a walk and three strikeouts.  Bruce Rondon pitched to one batter and retired him, Alex Wilson pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and an unearned run and Daniel Stumpf gave up a hit to the only batter that he faced.  Shane Greene saved his first game of the season pitching 1 2/3 innings and giving up two walks and he struck out one. 

Brett Gardner had a hit and drew a walk, Sanchez had two hits and Gregorius had two hits and three RBI.  Holliday had two hits, T. Frazier drew a walk and Tyler Wade had a hit.  Jacoby Ellsbury drew a pinch-hit walk, Wade, Sanchez and Holliday each hit a double and Gregorius hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 2-9 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Gardner had two stolen bases and Gardner had an outfield assist. 

Ian Kinsler had a hit, Mikie Mahtook drew a walk and Justin Upton had a hit and an RBI.  Miguel Cabrera had a hit, Nick Castellanos had a hit and James McCann had two hits.  John Hicks had a hit, three RBI and drew a walk, Dixon Machado had a hit and Andrew Romine had a hit.  Castellanos hit a double and Hicks and Upton each hit a homerun.  The Tigers were 2-4 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Upton and Greene each committed an error. 

In the second Hicks hit a three-run homerun to give the Tigers a 3-0 lead.  In the third Upton hit a solo homerun to push the lead to 4-0.  In the fourth Gregorius hit a two-run homerun to cut the lead to 4-2 and in the eighth Gregorius hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 4-3.  The final score was 4-3 and the rubber game of the three game series will be played on Wednesday afternoon.
