New York Mets lose to the Colorado Rockies on a walk-off


The New York Mets were defeated by the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Coors Field in Denver, Colorado and the final score was 5-4.  Steven Matz started for the Mets and he pitched ok.  The Mets offense was led by Yoenis Cespedes, Jay Bruce and Michael Conforto who each had two hits. 

Matz pitched five innings giving up six hits and three runs with two walks and two strikeouts.  Josh Smoker pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a walk and a strikeout, Erik Goeddel pitched to one batter and struck him out and Paul Sewald pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout.  Jerry Blevins pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and Hansel Robles pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout and he lost his second game of the season. 

Jeff Hoffman pitched six innings giving up five hits and two runs with three walks and five strikeouts.  Pat Neshek pitched an inning giving up a hit and an unearned run with two strikeouts, Chris Rusin pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout and Scott Oberg pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit.  Mike Dunn pitched an inning with a strikeout and earned his third win of the season. 

Conforto had two hits and drew two walks, Asdrubal Cabrera had an RBI and Cespedes had two hits and an RBI.  Bruce had two hits and two RBI, Wilmer Flores drew a walk and Amed Rosario had a hit, the first of his major league career.  Travis d’Arnaud had a hit, Cespedes hit a double, d’Arnaud and Bruce also hit a double.  Bruce hit a homerun and the Mets were 0-7 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. 

Charlie Blackmon had two hits and drew two walks, D.J. LeMahieu had two hits and Nolan Arenado had two hits and four RBI.  Mark Reynolds had two hits, Gerardo Parra had a hit and Trevor Story had a hit and drew a walk.  Carlos Gonzalez had a hit and an RBI, Ryan Hanigan had a hit and drew a walk and LeMahieu and Reynolds each hit a double and Arenado hit a homerun.  The Rockies were 3-11 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base.  Story committed an error and Hanigan had a passed ball. 

In the first Cespedes hit an RBI double to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the sixth Bruce hit an RBI double to extend the lead to 2-0.  In the sixth Arenado hit a three-run homerun to give the Rockies a 3-2 lead.  In the seventh Cabrera hit a sac fly to tie the game at three.  In the eighth Bruce hit a solo homerun to give the Mets a 4-3 lead.  In the bottom of the eighth Gonzalez hit an RBI single to tie the game at four and in the bottom of the ninth Arenado hit an RBI walk-off single to give the Rockies the 5-4 victory.  The two teams will play game two of three on Wednesday night.
