New York Yankees are shutout by the Detroit Tigers in rubber game of series


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday afternoon/evening.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 2-0.  The game had two rain delays and didn’t end until night time.  Masahiro Tanaka started for the Yankees and he pitched well.  The offense was led by Jacoby Ellsbury having two hits but they didn’t do much. 

Tanaka pitched six innings giving up six hits and two runs with one of them being earned.  He walked one and struck out seven and lost his 10th game of the season.  Tommy Khanle pitched a perfect inning and Dellin Betances pitched two innings giving up a walk and he struck out four. 

Jordan Zimmermann pitched seven innings giving up six hits and no runs with six strikeouts and he won his seventh game of the season.  Bruce Rondon pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two and Shane Greene pitched an inning with two strikeouts and earned his second save of the season. 

Brett Gardner had a hit, Ellsbury had two hits and Aaron Judge had a hit.  Gary Sanchez had a hit, Didi Gregorius had a hit and Chase Headley had a hit.  Headley and Sanchez hit a double and the Yankees were 0-9 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Ellsbury had a stolen base and Ellsbury committed an error. 

Ian Kinsler had a hit, Jim Adduci had two hits and Justin Upton had a hit and an RBI.  Victor Martinez had a hit, Mikie Mahtook drew two walks and James McCann had a hit.  Upton, Adduci and Martinez each hit a double and the Tigers were 1-9 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Mahtook had a stolen base. 

In the first Upton hit an RBI double to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth McCann hit an RBI single to push the lead to 2-0.  The final score would be 2-0 and the Tigers took two out of three in the series. 

The Yankees will head to Cleveland to begin a four game series on Thursday night.
