The New York Mets were defeated by
the San Diego Padres on Wednesday afternoon.
The game took place at Petco Park in San Diego, California and the final
score was 3-2. Wilmer Font who the Mets just
picked up made the start and he pitched well, the bullpen wasn’t bad. Jeff McNeil and Tomas Nido each had two hits
to lead the offense.
Font pitched four innings and he
gave up three hits and two runs with a strikeout. Robert Gsellman pitched two innings giving up
a hit and he struck out three, Tyler Bashlor lost his first game and he pitched
an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk and two strikeouts and Drew
Gagnon pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.
Matt Strahm pitched 6 1/3 innings
giving up six hits and two runs with a walk and seven strikeouts. Gerardo Reyes pitched 1 2/3 innings with
three strikeouts and Kirby Yates pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk
with three strikeouts and he picked up his 15th save of the
season.
McNeil had tow hits, Amed Rosario
had a hit and an RBI and Michael Conforto drew a walk. J.D. Davis had a hit, Brandon Nimmo had a hit
and drew a walk and Nido had two hits and an RBI. Nimmo and McNeil each hit a double and Nido
hit a homerun. The Mets were 2-5 with runners
in scoring position and left six men on base.
Conforto had a stolen base and Cano committed an error. Nido had a pickoff.
Franmil Reyes had a hit and an RBI,
Manny Machado had a hit and Eric Hosmer had a hit and an RBI. Hunter Renfroe had a hit and an RBI, Manuel
Margot drew a walk and Strahm had a hit.
Strahm hit a double and Renfroe and Hosmer each hit a homerun. The Padres were 1-4 with runners in scoring
position and left three men on base. Margot
had a stolen base and was picked off.
In the first Rosario hit an RBI
single to give the Mets a 1-0 lead. In
the second Nido hit a solo homerun to push the Mets lead to 2-0. In the bottom of the second Hosmer hit a solo
homerun cutting the lead to 2-1. In the
bottom of the third Reyes hit an RBI single to tie the game at two. In the seventh Renfroe hit a solo homerun
giving the Padres a 3-2 lead and that would be the final score.
The Mets lost two out of three in
this series and will be off on Thursday.
They will begin a three-game series with the Marlins at home on Friday
night.
