The New York Yankees were defeated
by the Minnesota Twins on Saturday afternoon.
The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the
final score was 7-3. J.A. Happ started
for the Yankees and he wasn’t great. DJ
LeMahieu led the offense with two hits.
Happ lost his third game of the
season pitching 5 2/3 innings and giving up seven hits and four runs. He walked one and struck out three. Joe Harvey pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up
two hits and an unearned run, Stephen Tarpley pitched an inning giving up two
hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout and Jake Barrett pitched 1 2/3
innings giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout.
Jake Odorizzi won his fourth game
of the season pitching six innings and giving up two hits and no runs with four
walks and eight strikeouts. Trevor
Hildenberger pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up three hits and two runs, Blake
Parker pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a run and Taylor Rogers
pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.
LeMahieu had two hits and an RBI,
Gary Sanchez had a hit, an RBI and drew two walks and Miguel Andujar had a hit
and drew a walk. Gleyber Torres had a
hit, Brett Gardner had a hit and drew a walk and Cameron Maybin had a hit. Gardner hit a double and Sanchez hit a
homerun. The Yankees were 2-6 with
runners in scoring position and left six men on base. LeMahieu was picked off and Andujar committed
two errors.
Mitch Garver had three hits and two
RBI, Nelson Cruz had a hit and an RBI and Eddie Rosario had a hit and an
RBI. Marwin Gonzalez had a hit, C.J.
Cron had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Max Kepler had a hit and drew a
walk. Jonathan Schoop had two hits and an
RBI, Byron Buxton had two hits. Buxton
hit a double and Cruz, Cron and Garver each hit a homerun. The Twins were 2-9 with runners in scoring
position and left eight men on base.
Odorizzi had a pickoff.
In the third Garver hit a two-run
homerun to give the Twins a 2-0 lead. In
the fifth Polanco hit into a double play and a run scored to push the Twins
lead to 3-0. Cron hit a solo homerun in
the sixth and the lead extended to 4-0.
In the seventh Rosario hit into a force out and the lead was up to 5-0. In the bottom of the seventh the Yankees finally
got on the board with a wild pitch and a LeMahieu RBI single cutting the lead
to 5-2. In the eighth Schoop hit an RBI
single making it a 6-2 game. In the
bottom of the eighth Sanchez hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 6-3 but the
Twins added a run in the ninth on a Cruz solo homerun and the final score would
be 7-3.
The two teams will play the rubber
game of the series on Sunday afternoon.
