The New York Yankees defeated the
Tampa Bay Rays on Friday night. The game
took place at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida and the final score
was 4-3. Domingo German pitched well and
the bullpen was great for the Yankees.
Gio Urshela had a huge two-run single and Gary Sanchez had a couple of
hits to lead the offense.
German pitched five innings giving
up five hits and three runs. He walked
two and struck out five and earned his seventh win of the season. Tommy Khanle pitched a perfect inning with a
couple of strikeouts, Adam Ottavino pitched an inning giving up a hit and two
walks and he struck out one and Zack Britton pitched an inning giving up a hit
and he struck out one. Aroldis Chapman
saved his ninth game of the season pitching an inning and giving up a hit and
striking out two.
Tyler Glasnow pitched 5 1/3 innings
giving up five hits and four runs with three being earned. He walked two and struck out nine, Emilio
Pagan pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and he struck out one and
Adam Kolarek pitched to one batter and got him out. Casey Sadler pitched three innings with two
strikeouts.
Luke Voit drew a walk, Sanchez had
two hits and Clint Frazier had a hit.
Gleyber Torres had a hit and an RBI, Miguel Andujar had a hit and Urshela
had a hit and two RBI. Cameron Maybin
had a hit and drew a walk, Maybin hit a double and the Yankees were 4-15 with runners
in scoring position and left six men on base.
Maybin had a stolen base and was caught stealing.
Austin Meadows had two hits, two
RBI and drew a walk, Ji-Man Choi had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Yandy
Diaz had a hit. Avisail Garcia had a
hit, Willy Adames had a hit and drew two walks and Nick Ciuffo had a hit. Guillermo Heredia had a hit, Meadows and
Adames each hit a double and Meadows and Choi each hit a homerun. The Rays were 1-8 with runners in scoring position
and left seven men on base. Sadler and
Diaz each committed an error. Ciuffo had
a passed ball.
In the first a passed ball gave the
Yankees a 1-0 lead and Torres hit an RBI single to push the lead to 2-0. In the fifth Meadows hit a two-run homerun to
tie the game at two. Choi hit a solo
homerun and the Rays had a 3-2 lead. In
the sixth Urshela hit a two-run single to give the Yankees a 4-3 lead and that
would be the final score of the game.
The two teams will play game two of
three on Saturday night.
