The New York Yankees defeated the
Seattle Mariners on Thursday night. The
game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score
was 3-1. J.A. Happ started for the
Yankees and pitched his best game of the year and the bullpen was great. DJ LeMahieu and Gleyber Torres led the
offense with two hits each.
Happ pitched 5+ innings giving up
one hit and no runs with three walks and seven strikeouts. Happ picked up his second win of the season. Adam Ottavino pitched an inning with a walk
and a strikeout, Tommy Khanle pitched an inning with a strikeout and Zack Britton pitched an inning
with a strikeout. Aroldis Chapman picked
up his eighth save of the season pitching an inning and giving up a hit and a
run with a strikeout.
Mike Leake took his fourth loss of the
season pitching seven innings and giving up six hits and a run with two
strikeouts. Connor Sadzeck pitched an
inning giving up three hits and two runs with a walk and two strikeouts.
LeMahieu had two hits, Gary Sanchez
had a hit and Clint Frazier had a hit.
Torres had two hits and drew a walk, Gio Urshela had a hit and two RBI
and Mike Tauchman had a hit. Cameron
Maybin had a hit and an RBI, Maybin and Torres each hit a double and the
Yankees were 2-9 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on
base. Gardner had a stolen base and
Sanchez committed an error.
Dee Gordon drew a walk, Dylan Moore
drew a walk and Edwin Encarnacion drew two walks. Domingo Santana had a hit and an RBI, Tom
Murphy had a hit and Santana hit a homerun.
The Mariners were 0-1 with runners in scoring position and left four men
on base. Moore had a stolen base and
Gordon was caught stealing.
In the second Maybin hit an RBI
double to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead.
In the eighth Urshela hit a two-run single to push the Yankees lead to
3-0. In the ninth Santana hit a solo
homerun cutting the lead to 3-1 but that would be the final score.
The Yankees took three out of four
in the series and will head to Tampa for a three-game series beginning on
Friday night.
