The New York Yankees lose to the Chicago White Sox as Arod returns


The Chicago White Sox defeated the New York Yankees on Monday night. The final score was 8-1 and the game took place at US Cellular Field in Chicago, Illinois. Andy Pettitte started and was terrible, the bullpen was ok. The Yankees offense got some hits but they didn’t do much damage with runners in scoring position. Vernon Wells had three hits and Rodriguez had a hit.

Pettitte pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up 11 hits and seven runs. He walked one and struck out four and lost his ninth game of the season. Preston Claiborne pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and two walks with a strikeout, Shawn Kelley pitched two innings giving up two hits and a run with three walks and a strikeout and Joba Chamberlain gave up a walk and struck out one in one inning. Boone Logan pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts.

Brett Gardner had a hit and an RBI, Robinson Cano had a hit and Rodriguez had a hit. Wells had three hits, Curtis Granderson drew a walk and Ichiro Suzuki had a hit. Eduardo Nunez had a hit; Chris Stewart had a hit and drew a walk. Wells hit two doubles and Gardner hit a double. The Yankees were 0-11 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. Stewart had a passed ball.

Jose Quintana pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up eight hits and a run with a walk. Quintana won his sixth game of the season and struck out five. Matt Lindstrom pitched 1 1/3 perfect innings with a strikeout and David Purcey pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout.

Alexei Ramirez had four hits and two RBI, Jeff Keppinger had two hits and drew a walk and Alex Rios had two hits, four RBI and drew a walk. Paul Konerko had a hit and drew a walk, Adam Dunn had an RBI and drew three walks and Alejandro De Aza had a hit and drew a walk. Casper Wells had a hit and Josh Phegley had a hit. Keppinger and Ramirez each hit a double and the White Sox were 5-16 with runners in scoring position and left 13 men on base. Rios had a stolen base and Viciedo had an outfield assist.

In the first Rios had an RBI single, Dunn hit a sacrifice fly and Beckham hit an RBI single to make it 3-0 White Sox. In the second Rios hit a two run single to make it 5-0 White Sox. Ramirez hit an RBI single in the third to make it 6-0. Rios walked in the same inning to push the lead to 7-0. Ramirez hit an RBI double to make it 8-0 in the sixth inning. The Yankees scored their only run in the seventh. Gardner hit a sacrifice fly to make it 8-1 and that was the final score.

The Yankees record fell to 57-54 and the White Sox ended their 10 game losing streak and improved their record to 41-69. The two teams will play the second of three on Tuesday night.
