The New York Mets defeat the Colorado Rockies 2-1 to sweep series
The New York Mets defeated the Colorado Rockies on Thursday afternoon. The final score was 2-1 and the game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York. Dillon Gee started and pitched well and so did the bullpen. The Mets offense didn’t do much, Flores had a hit and an RBI.
Gee pitched 7 2/3 innings giving up eight hits and a run. He walked none and struck out three and earned his eighth win. Scott Rice walked the only batter that he faced, David Aardsma retired the only batter that he faced and LaTroy Hawkins pitched a perfect inning for his second save of the season.
Juan Lagares had a hit, Daniel Murphy had a hit and Marlon Byrd had a hit and drew a walk. Ike Davis had a hit and drew a walk, Flores had an RBI and drew a walk and Anthony Recker had a hit and an RBI. Omar Quintanilla drew a walk, Gee had a hit and the Mets were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. Lagares had a stolen base and Byrd an outfield assist.
Jeff Manship lost his first game of the season. He pitched five innings giving up four hits and two runs. He walked three and struck out four. Jeff Francis pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout, Josh Outman pitched an inning giving up a hit and struck out one and Matt Belisle pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.
Charlie Blackmon had a hit, LeMahieu had three hits and Chris Dickerson had a hit and an RBI. Troy Tulowitzki drew a walk, Michael Cuddyer had a hit and Nolan Arenado had a hit. Torrealba had a hit, Dickerson hit a homerun and the Rockies were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. Culberson had a stolen base and Cuddyer was caught stealing, Torrealba committed an error.
Dickerson hit a solo homerun in the fourth to give the Rockies a 1-0 lead. Flores hit an RBI groundout to tie the game at one in the fourth and Recker hit a sacrifice fly to make it 2-1. That would be it for the scoring as it was all in the fourth inning.
The Mets record improved to 52-60 and the Rockies record dropped to 52-64. The Mets will head to Arizona on Friday night to begin a three game series.
