The New York Mets defeat the Colorado Rockies in the late innings

The New York Mets defeated the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday night. The final score was 3-2 and the game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York. Jenrry Mejia started for the Mets and pitched ok, the bullpen was good. Ike Davis and Juan Lagares each had two hits.


Mejia pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up four hits and two runs with one of them being earned. He walked two and struck out seven. Carlos Torres pitched 1 2/3 innings striking out one, Scott Atchison picked up his second win of the season pitching an inning walking one and striking out two. Latroy Hawkins picked up his first save of the season pitching an inning and giving up two hits.

Eric Young Jr. had a hit, Daniel Murphy had a hit and Davis had two hits and drew two walks. Lagares had two hits and three RBI, John Buck drew a walk and Davis hit two doubles. Lagares hit a triple and the Mets were 2-6 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. Davis and Wilmer Flores each committed an error. Buck had a pickoff.

Chad Bettis pitched five innings giving up four hits and two runs. He walked one and struck out two. Adam Ottavino pitched an inning walking one and striking out a batter and Wilton Lopez pitched two innings giving up two hits and a run with a walk and two strikeouts. Lopez lost his fourth game of the season.

Dexter Fowler drew two walks, Corey Dickerson had a hit and Michael Cuddyer drew a walk. Wilin Rosario had a hit, Todd Helton had a hit and Nolan Arenado had a hit and an RBI. DJ LeMahieu had a hit, Charlie Blackmon had a hit and an RBI and Helton hit a double. Blackmon hit a homerun and the Rockies were 0-5 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. Fowler had a stolen base and was picked off.

Lagares hit a two run triple in the first to give the Mets a 2-0 lead. In the fifth Arenado hit a sacrifice fly to cut the lead to 2-1 Mets. Blackmon hit a solo homerun in the sixth to tie the game at two. Lagares hit an RBI single in the eighth to give the Mets a 3-2 lead and that would be the final score.

The Mets record improved to 50-60 and the Rockies record dropped to 52-62. The two teams will play game three on Wednesday night.
