The New York Yankees defeated the
Seattle Mariners on Sunday afternoon.
The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the
final score was 2-1 Yankees. CC Sabathia
started for the Yankees and pitched very well and the bullpen did it's
job. Mark Teixeira had three hits to
lead the offense.
Sabathia pitched six innings giving
up six hits and a run with a walk and seven strikeouts. Justin Wilson pitched an inning giving up a
hit and he struck out one, Dellin Betances won his sixth game of the season pitching
an inning and giving up two walks and Andrew Miller recorded his 20th save of
the season pitching a perfect inning including two strikeouts.
Felix Hernandez pitched six innings
giving up five hits and a run with three walks and five strikeouts. Vidal Nuno pitched 1 1/3 perfect innings and
Fernando Rodney pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run and he took
his fourth loss of the season.
Brett Gardner drew two walks, Alex
Rodriguez had a hit and Teixeira had three hits and an RBI. Carlos Beltran had a hit, an RBI and drew a
walk, Chase Headley had a hit including a double and Mark Teixeira hit a
homerun. The Yankees were 1-6 with
runners in scoring position and left six men on base.
Austin Jackson had a hit and an
RBI, Kyle Seager had a hit and Robinson Cano drew a walk. Nelson Cruz had a hit, Franklin Gutierrez had
a hit and Seth Smith drew a walk. Jesus
Montero had two hits and drew a walk and Chris Taylor had a hit. The Mariners were 1-8 with runners in scoring
position and left -
In the fifth Jackson hit an RBI
single to give the Mariners a 1-0
lead. In the sith Beltran hit an RBI
single to tie the game at one and then in the eighth Teixeira hit a solo
homerun to give the Yankees a 2-1 lead and that would be the final score. The Yankees took two out of three in the
series and will be off on Monday before beginning a three game set with the
Baltimore Orioles at home on Tuesday night.
