The New York Yankees defeated the
Seattle Mariners on Friday night. The
game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score
was 4-3 Yankees. Masahiro Tanaka started
for the Yankees and pitched well. Alex
Rodriguez and Chris Young each had two hits to lead the offense.
Tanaka pitched seven innings giving
up five hits and three runs with two walks and seven strikeouts. Tanaka won his sixth game of the season. Dellin Betances pitched an inning with two
strikeouts and Andrew Miller saved his 19th game of the season pitching an
inning and giving up a hit and striking out one.
Mike Montgomery pitched six innings
giving up seven hits and three runs with three walks and nine strikeouts. Joe Beimel lost his first game of the season
pitching 2/3 of an inning and giving up a hit and a run with a walk and two
strikeouts, Tom Wilhelmsen pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a walk and Vidal
Nuno retired the only two batters he faced and had a strikeout.
Jacoby Ellsbury drew a walk, Brett
Gardner had a hit and drew a walk and Rodriguez had two hits and an RBI. Mark Teixeira drew two walks, Brian McCann
had a hit and an RBI and Young had two hits and an RBI. Chase Headley had a hit, an RBI and drew a
walk, Didi Gregorius had a hit and Young hit a double. Young and Rodriguez each hit a homerun and
the Yankees were 2-7 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on
base.
Kyle Seager had two hits and three
RBI, Seth Smith drew a walk and Austin Jackson had two hits. Mark Trumbo had a hit, Logan Morrison drw a
walk and Mike Zunino had a hit. Seager
hit two homeruns and the Mariners were 0-2 with runners in scoring position and
left five men on base. Zunino committed
an error.
In the second Young hit a solo
homerun giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead.
In the third Seager hit a solo homerun to tie the game at one. Headley hit an RBI single in the fourth to
give the Yankees back the lead at 2-1.
Seager hit a two run homerun in the fifth to give the Mariners a 3-2
lead. In the bottom of the fifth McCann
hit an RBI single to tie the game at three and in the seventh Rodriguez hit a
solo homerun to give the Yankees a 4-3 lead which would be the final
score. The two teams will play game two
of three on Saturday afternoon.
