The New York Yankees defeated the
Baltimore Orioles on Thursday afternoon.
The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the
final score was 9-3. Masahiro Tanaka started
and pitched well. Jacoby Ellsbury had
three hits, Didi Gregorius and John Ryan Murphy also had three hits to lead the
offense.
Tanaka pitched 7 2/3 innings giving
up three runs on five hits. He didn't
walk a batter and he struck otu seven and earned his seventh win of the
season. Chris Capuano pitched an inning
with a strikeout and Branden Pinder retired the only batter that he faced.
Ubaldo Jimenez lost his sixth game
of the season pitching 2 1/3 innings and giving up eight hits and seven runs
with three walks and two strikeouts.
Tommy Hunter pitched 1 2/3 innings with three strikeouts, Bud Norris
pitched two innings giving up four hits and two runs with two strikeouts and
Chaz Roe pitched an inning giving up a hit.
Zach Britton pitched a perfect inning.
Ellsbury had
three hits and four RBI, Brett Gardner drew a walk and Ale Rodriguez drew a walk. Mark Teixeira drew a walk, Carlos Beltran had
a hit and Chase Headley had two hits and three RBI. Gregorius had three hits and an RBI, Murphy
had three hits and Stephen Drew had a hit and an RBI. Headley, Drew and Ellsbury each hit a double
and Ellsbury hit a homerun. The Yankees
were4-10 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.
Manny Machado
had a hit and an RBI, Jimmy Paredes had a hit and Chris Davis had two hits and
an RBI. J.J. Hardy had a hit and an RBI,
Davis and Paredes each hit a double and Davis, Hardy and Machado each hit a
homerun. The Orioles were 0-2 with
runners in scoring position and left two men on base.
In the first
Headley hit a three run double giving the Yankees a 3-0 lead. Gregorius hit an RBI single to make it 4-0
Yankees. In the second Davis hit a solo
homerun to cut the lead to 4-1. Ellsbury
hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the second to increase the lead to 5-1
Yankees. In the third Drew hit an RBI
double to make it a 6-1 game. Ellsbury
hit a sac fly and it was 7-1 Yankees. In
the fifth Ellsbury hit a two run double to make it a 9-1 game. In the eighth Hardy and Machado each hit a
solo homerun to cut the lead to 9-3 and that would be the final score. The Yankees swept the three game series to
stretch their lead in the AL East over the Orioles to seven games. The Yankees will now head out on a ten game
road trip through Minnesota, Texas and Chicago.
