The New York Yankees get blown out in Minnesota



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Minnesota Twins on Friday night.  The game took place at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota and the final score was 10-1.  Michael Pineda started for the Yankees and didn't pitch well.  Mark Teixeira had three hits, Didi Gregorius and Stephen Drew each had two hits but all the Yankees hits were singles. 

Pineda pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up eight hits and five runs with no walks and four strikeouts.  Pineda lost his seventh game of the season.  Branden Pinder pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout and Chris Capuano pitched an inning giving up four hits and four runs with a strikeout. 

Phil Hughes won his ninth game of the season pitching seven innings giving up seven hits and no runs with no walks and three strikeouts.  Brian Duensing pitched an inning giving up a hit and he walked one and Casey Fien pitched an inning giving up two hits and an unearned run. 

Jacoby Ellsbury had an RBI, Brett Gardner had a hit and Alex Rodriguez had a hit.  Teixeira had three hits, Brian McCann drew a walk and Chase Headley had a hit.  Gregorius had two hits, Drew had two hits and the Yankees were 2-5 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base.  Teixeira had a stolen base. 

Brian Dozier had a hit and two RBI, Torii Hunter had two hits and an RBI and Joe Mauer had a hit.  Miguel Sano had a hit and two RBI, Trevor Plouffe had three hits and an RBI and Eddie Rosario had three hits.  Aaron Hicks had a hit and two RBI, Kurt Suzuki had two hits and two RBI and Rosario hit three doubles, Plouffe and Mauer each hit a double.  Sano, Hunter, Plouffe and Dozier each hit a homerun and the Twins were 4-10 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Rosario committed an error.   

In the first Sano hit a two run homerun giving the Twins a 2-0 lead.  In the second Suzuki hit an RBI single to push the lead to 3-0.  In the fourth Hicks hit a sac fly to increase the lead to 4-0 for the Twins.  Suzuki hit an RBI single making it 5-0 and then in the seventh Hunter hit a solo homerun to make it a 6-0 game.  In the eighth Plouffe hit a solo homerun making it 7-0 Twins.  Hicks hit an RBI single  and Dozier hit a two run homerun making it 10-0 in the eighth inning.  In the ninth Ellsbury hit a sac fly to break the shutout and make it a 10-1 game but that would be the final score.  The two teams will play game two of three on Saturday night.
