The Miami Marlins defeated the New
York Mets 7-5 on Sunday afternoon. The
game took place at First Data Field in Port St. Lucie, Florida and the final
score was 7-5. Jacob deGrom started for
the Mets and he pitched ok. Asdrubal
Cabrera had two hits to lead the offense.
deGrom pitched 5 1/3 innings giving
up seven hits and four runs with a walk and four strikeouts. He took the loss, his first of the
spring. David Roseboom pitched giving up
a hit and two runs with a walk and didn’t record an out, Erik Goeddel pitched
2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run and Rafael Montero pitched two
innings giving up two hits and he struck out three. Cory Burns pitched an inning giving up a hit
and he struck out one.
Stuart had a hit and an RBI,
Cabrera had two hits and Yoenis Cespedes had a hit and drew a walk. Kaczmarski had a hit, Neil Walker drew a walk
and Rodriguez drew a walk. Lucas Duda
had a hit, Oberste had a hit and an RBI and Travis d’Arnaud drew two
walks. Carrillo had an RBI, Taijeron had
a hit and drew a walk and Ty Kelly had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk. Zabala drew a walk, Cabrera and Kaczmarski
each hit a double. Taijeron hit a triple
and the Mets were 3-16 with runners in scoring position and left 15 men on
base. Kelly, Montero and Rodriguez each
committed an error. d’Arnaud had a
passed ball and Cespedes had an outfield assist.
In the second Matt den Dekker hit a
solo homerun to give the Marlins a 1-0 lead.
In the sixth Adeiny Hechavarria hit an RBI triple to extend the Marlins
lead to 2-0. Dee Gordon hit an RBI
single still in the sixth to extend the lead to 3-0. A stolen base an interference error led to
another run and Dekker hit a solo homerun to make it a 5-0 game still in the
sixth. Brandon Barnes hit a two-run
homerun and it was 7-0 Marlins. In the ninth
Oberste hit an RBI single to make it a 7-1 game and a fielding error made it
7-3. Kelly hit an RBI single to cut the
lead to 7-4. Stuart hit an RBI single
and it was 7-5 but that would be the final score.
