The New York Yankees defeated the
Washington Nationals on Monday afternoon.
The game took place at The Ballpark of the Palm Beaches in West Palm
Beach, Florida and the final score was 9-3.
Michael Pineda started for the Yankees and he wasn’t great. Chad Green pitched well for the Yankees. Greg Bird and Billy McKinney each had two
hits and Matt Holliday had two RBI to lead the offense.
Pineda pitched 1 2/3 innings giving
up a hit and three runs with two walks and a strikeout. Pineda picked up his third win of the
spring. J.R. Graham pitched 1 1/3
innings giving up three hits and a walk, Green pitched 3 1/3 innings giving up
two hits and a walk with two strikeouts and Ben Heller pitched 2/3 of an inning
giving up a hit and a walk. Jonathan
Holder pitched two perfect innings.
Brett Gardner had a hit and two
RBI, Dustin Fowler had an RBI and Aaron Hicks had a hit. Bird had two hits, Donovan Solano had a hit
and Holliday had a hit and two RBI.
Chase Headley had a hit and drew a walk, Aaron Judge had a hit and drew
a walk and McKinney had two hits. Austin
Romine had a hit, Rob Refsnyder had a hit and an RBI and Ruben Tejada had a
hit. Ronald Torreyes had a hit and an
RBI, Gleyber Torres had a hit and two RBI and Refsnyder, Bird and Torres each
hit a double. Holliday hit a homerun and
the Yankees were 6-15 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on
base. Gardner and Frazier each had a
stolen base.
In the second Refsnyder hit an RBI
double to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.
In the second still Torreyes hit an RBI single, Gardner hit a two-run
single and it was 4-0 Yankees. In the
bottom of the second Adam Eaton hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 4-1 and
Adam Lind hit a two-run double to cut it to 4-3. In the fifth Holliday hit a two-run homerun
to push the lead to 6-3. In the eighth
Torres hit a two-run double making it 8-3 and Fowler hit a sac fly to complete
the scoring at 9-3.
