The New York Mets defeated the St.
Louis Cardinals on Saturday afternoon.
The game took place at Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter, Florida and the
final score was 5-4. Robert Gsellman
started for the Mets and he pitched well.
Kevin Plawecki had two hits to lead the offense.
Gsellman pitched five innings
giving up four hits and a run with a walk and three strikeouts. Jerry Blevins pitched to one batter giving up
a walk and a run, Addison Reed pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck
out one and Josh Edgin pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a
strikeout. Ben Rowen pitched an inning giving up a hit
and a run and Corey Taylor pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and he
picked up his fourth save of the spring.
Juan Lagares had a hit and an RBI,
Michael Conforto had a hit and Wilmer Flores had an RBI and drew a walk. Gavin Cecchini had a hit, Luis Carpio had a
hit and Plawecki had two hits and an RBI.
Xorge Carrillo had a hit and an RBI, Tim Tebow had a hit and Matt
Reynolds had an RBI. Andres Gimenez had
a hit, Taijereon had a hit and Carpio and Carrillo each hit a double. Conforto
hit a triple and Lagares and Plawecki each hit a homerun. The Mets were 3-11 with runners in scoring
position and left five men on base.
Yoenis Cespedes and L.J. Mazzilli each committed an error and Plawecki
had a passed ball.
In the first Randal Grichuk hit an
RBI single to give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead.
In the second Reynolds hit a sac fly to tie the game at one. In the third Lagares hit a solo homerun to
give the Mets a 2-1 lead, Flores hit a sac fly to extend the lead to 3-1. In the sixth Plawecki hit a solo homerun to
push the lead to 4-1. In the sixth
Harrison Bader hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 4-2. A wild pitch in the eighth made it 4-3 and
Patrick Wisdom hit a sac fly to tie the game at four. In the ninth Carrillo hit an RBI double to
give the Mets a 5-4 lead and that was the final score.
